Your build is looking great. Sorry to hear about the LFS trouble. I hope everything that is still alive recovers.

thanks, clairerenee!

with the bleaching, i read somewhere online it could

take corals 8 months to recover. :o

here are fotos of the tank.

it has four of my ailing corals

and some new additions. i could

do without the rock in the left corner,

but that's where the pump blows sand

around until it's bare. don't really like that.

I love the zoas from LC... I have been drooling over everything on their website for a long time. Keep me posted on how they do.

the colors are pretty amazing on both the

zoas and the mushroom. will keep you posted!

thanks!!

Nice tank cindyp! Following for SD unity ;)

Which store was it that you had problems with, if you don't mind me asking (maybe PM if you don't want to name & shame). I just want to know who to avoid.

so i bought my frist two rock flower anemones

today. i went in person and they were supposed

to be discounted but the bright one was like expensive,

i hope i wasn't bamboozled. ha!

i should have tried to bargain at least, but i'm just

not so great at it. you'd think my charm and beauty

alone would have helped.

*blows raspberries*

fotos soon!

here is one of the anemones.

he's about 2 inches across with

a deep purple color, some green,

and pink "fingers". sorry i don't know

correct term.

here is my fancy expensive anemone.

she's super bright with orange fingers on the

outside and green on the instead. smaller than

the one above, maybe 1.5 inches across?

i did a water change and had turned off the pump, then turned

it on again and watched both anemones completely close

into a balloon then open up bigger than before.

SO COOL!

love these guys. i bought some frozen mysis shrimps

for them. i hope they do okay in my humble 8g. the sexy

shrimps have found the deep blue/purple one and love him.

they haven't visited the bright orange one yet.

so excited to get my first rock flower anemones!

looks awesome

how much did you pick them up for?

are they from aqua sd?

heya! i did. first time.

are you local to SD too?

(sorry if we've discussed, my memory is poo.)

i'll message you what i paid. ha!

but i'm very happy with my anemones,

and the owner was very nice.

here's another foto of the orange one

after she opened up more post water change.

Wow! So pretty! I've not seen any rock flower anemone's in any LFS, but I keep my eye out. I'm too nervous to try ordering online! I hope they enjoy living in your tank!!

thank you! i'm super happy!

i didn't realize they weren't readily

available. i see from another thread

that poster buys often from VIPReef?

the one day shipping makes it so

that i think they survive--but the one

day shipping is quite costly.

tri-color nems are expensive, the more colors they have the larger the price tag.

They're beautiful ones.

thank you! they were supposed to be marked

down but i had sticker shock. but still bought anyway.

and thanks for the feeding tips! i already have

frozen mysis shrimp. will look into the other.

hi! i have a noob RFA question.

my orange one opens full like

second foto in no light. (i got that

foto after turning light off then popped

back on just to take foto.)

this morn, it was open until i turned

on tank light. it is on a rock at bottom

in full light. should i just let it be or

should i try and move it to a shadier

part?

thank you!

let it be, it's probably just getting used to the time the light gets on and most lights are kind of jarring when they just come on, if it doesn't like the light, it'll move to a shadier location.

Cindy,

Congrats on the new RFAs! They look beautiful. Never seen a orange one like that before.

They are fascinating creatures. Mine really like Mysis shrimp. They like Rod's food too.

thank you! i read up a little on it and it seems

once the nem is settled, you have to be careful

taking her out. and i had plopped her right over

a rather deep crevice and she's pretty settled in there.

i wouldn't want to hurt her or her foot, etc, when

trying to get her out. also, i figure, if she hated it,

she'd move.

Let's go. I think they are looking great! Both are bright and very healthy looking. Nice setup!

thank you!! working toward a fishie or two i hope.

still a noob and excited but also a little nervous. ha!

thanks for the tips! do you have a foto of your rock nem?

i'm super happy with them, though had sticker price shock.

ha! i saw another like my orange one on ebay for $150. i didn't

pay that much, thank god, but she was still expensive!

Cindy,

I will try to take some good photos of my nems. Only have iphone shots. Sorting out my wife's camera is on today's to do list.

My RFAs also like table shrimp. Bought a big bag of frozen shrimp at Costco. I thaw one at a time and chop

it up very fine; like minced garlic.

EBay huh?? Have not looked for nems there before?! This could be dangerous.

Beautiful nems cindyp!

thank you! i'm very happy with them.

i hope they do okay!

Great finds! Do you plan to get any inverts to host your nems?

i've got two sexy shrimps actually.

and they are hanging out with the purple

flower nem quite a lot. =(

unfortunately, i think the shrimps might have

nibbled on my expensive super saiyan zoa. :(

i've not had a problem with them before. so

i'm not sure.

My experience with sexy shrimp is that while they do hang out on/near corals, they don't do any harm. In fact I noticed that the areas in my tank that they inhabited the most tended to be clean and free of nuisance algae. If you are bothered by how much they are picking at your corals you could try feeding them. Mine loved to eat the sinking crustacean pellets from Hikari.

yes! this has been my experience exactly also.

they seem to be cleaning things off of the corals they

are on. and i love them. and i do spot feed them pellets.

i've had no trouble so far. the super saiyan zoas are

new in my tank, less than a week. so i don't know if nibble

on or just not fully unfurled or unhappy. who knows. will

look around more. thanks!

thank you! tell me when you have fotos up!

i don't even know what. ha!
