in desperation, i dumped brine shrimp into

the tank. um. it looks like an infestation now.

i hope it works out okay. there are hundreds.

the sexy shrimps and corals are having a field day,

the goby (whom i BOUGHT the shrimp for) seems

hesitant, and i've yet to see it eat a shrimp, but it's out

and picking for sure. so i'm HOPING it's eating smaller

ones i cannot see.

wondering if my hundreds of brine shrimp means

death than bad water param? WHOOPS. i don't even know.

i also bought new life spectrum .5mm pellets for the

goby. and then, i think i'm done. i think i've spent $70 trying

to feed my $15 goby.

/NOOB

I SAW IT EAT A BIGGER BRINE SHRIMP!

i'm so excited! i know they have no nutrition but

still. i'm so happy to know for sure the goby has eaten

something.

I wonder if you could get away with putting decapsulated (hatching, of course) eggs into the tank and letting the babies hatch slowly but surely. They're a lot more nutritious when they've still got the yolk going, and they're about the size of pods! Actually, I'm pretty sure I did this at one point a year or two ago. You might also be able to get away with a small hatchery or two and hatch a ton of them at once, then refrigerate the leftovers for a day or so.

And if you end up transitioning over to frozen or pellets, I remember a product called 'instant brine shrimp' or something that is just a small baby food -looking pot of baby brine shrimp that have been sterilized and are in water. Super dense, and everything went insane over them.

thanks so much for the tips maria.

i'm not sure with my abundance of brine shrimp.

such a noob move. i mean, like 500 shrimps for my

one goby. er. i don't have extra salt water and don't

have time to get today. but by tomorrow, i'm not sure

if they'll still be alive? we'll see.

but for sure, the goby has eaten a few. so i'm happy.

here's a foto before the brine shrimp infestation.

i'll be honest, i don't have the heart to name her.

Hmm... Well, the salinity for a reef tank is still technically within their range, so what you'll need to worry about most is the ones that get sucked into your filtration. You might be fine if you catch them all with filter floss and replace every 12 hours or so?

well, many of them seem to have dieded.

i'm not sure why. i know the salinity is a little

bit higher for brine, but... ? that's what the LFS

said, they'd last and swim for about 4 hours.

i turned the pump on and it's a slaughter house.

so i sucked most of what i could out with a baster,

and hope that the rest will be taken care of by filter

and cuc.

it was 2.50 so despite the noob mistake, worth it.

will have to do my water change sooner rather than later

though, i think.

I actually want to read up on cultivating mysis, brine, whatever, some natural live for my clowns and actually my nems in my 60g, would be cool ll if they could just end up being fed because those shrimp could walk onto them and get pulled in.

hello friends!

i did an impulse purchase yesterday when

i visited ASD--a yellow clown goby! he is

super cute and i love him already. he swims

around quite a lot exploring, for not having

the floaty bladders.

i also bought a bottle of copepods (per GENA's rec) from

tim, and they seemed filled with the critters. hopefully,

i'll have a good population explosion soon!

i went to the Erasure concert last night--SO GREAT--only

slightly marred by drunken assh0le behind us threatening

a guy in our row. this morning, i talk to my editor about

book cover concepts--always an exciting milestone. :D

How's the rainford goby doing?

I'm jealous... now you've got two fish that I want!!

i think she still looks thin. :(

there's pods for her to peck at now, but

i'm not sure that's enough for her.

i'm hoping, and hear, that the yellow clown

goby will eat better. hoping he'll accept frozen

at least.

you could easily get a ycg, no?

I've read that sometimes they can peck at polyps on SPS. Originally, I didn't want any SPS, but now I've got 5... :P

It may be a fish I add to my next tank. Fingers crossed that next Spring I can make that happen!!

this is true. i've read females will lay eggs

on SPS too, which hurts them.

here's another shot of the YCG perched on the

acans. she's on the blasto now. it is *hilarious*. love it

so much! (this is a shot from a little far aways. i still make

ycg jumpy. but the rainford goby isn't scared of me one bit!)

ha! I loved Erasure back when and still do. It's also really uplifting to clean the house to and very conducive to walking on the treadmill as well. Who needs love like that???

Ycg looks extremely skinny try getting him to eat they are notorious bad eaters

oh no! do you think? ASD fed him, and he

ate live stuff, but only picked at pellets. i've

fed reef frenzy today, but didn't see either gobies

really eating? :( i have such terrible luck! i ordered

cyclo-peez and am hoping to try that too.

my poor skinny gobies! i love to eat, too!

wish they weren't on a perpetual diet.

the concert was *amazing*. the lead singer is 50,

fit, and dancing like crazy. his voice still sounds great too.

love them.

i'll be honest, i want to get rid of my bleached gsp on the top

of the rock. it just isn't pretty. i'm awful, i know.

i bought the Kent Garlic Extreme because ycg are more timid when it comes to getting food. It helped mine. So, it's a thought.

i'll add this to list. i had put some reef

frenzy in the corner and saw the YCG sitting

there just now and the food was gone. here's to hoping.

i read that they might eat less when stressed too.

will keep observing and trying. thank you, 1st!

you can see where my ultra nem finally settled

too, in that front corner. ha! she crawled all over

the rock and seems pleased in that spot for now.

been there at least a week.

LOVE the new clown goby addition!!!! I've been thinking about getting one too for my bigger tank. Yours doesn't look skinny to me. It's just a little guy from the looks of it.

How do you get your Goby to come out? Mine stays in a hole in one of the rocks and runs away every time it sees me. My wife must have been talking to it.
