30G Down And Dirty Rimless

So figured I am nearing the point of my tank being ready so thought I'd throw up a build thread!

All equipment and live stock is purchased and ready to go just have to build a stand. I'll be transferring everything from my biocube into here, which is mostly sticks!

Display: Deep Blue 30g Rimless, 24" x 24" x 12"
Sump: Eshopps R-100 24"x12"x16".
Lighting: 2 Rapid LED Aurora Pucks
Circulation: 2x Ecotech Marine Vortech MP10ES
Skimmer: Eshopps PSK-100 Protein Skimmer
Media Reactor: IM Minimax Desktop
Return Pump: Sicce 2.0 568 Return Pump
Heater: 2x Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Aquarium 50w Heater
ATO: Tunze Osmolator Nano 3152
Controller: Neptunse System Aqua Controller Jr.
Filtration: Filter socks
Dosing: Two BRS dosing pump, have never dosed so will figure it out when the time comes.

My dad is helping me build the stand for my 30g and for the life of me I couldn't get him to understand what I wanted. So I needed a reason to test out some new software I purchased, and figured this would fit the bill. The door on the left side will be a electronics rack to keep everything separate. Let me know what you think!

superior planning skills, i like it and will follow

Nice, ill follow.

Thanks guys!

So could really use some advice from my talented nano reefers. I totally forgot about my ATO reservoir when designing this stand and am now in a bit of a pickle as to where to put it.

Variables:

  • Stand is 24"w x 32"l x 36"t
  • In the space in front of my sump I have 6.5" to play with till I get to close to door/frame for my liking.
  • On the left of the Sump I have 4.5"w to work with and around 15" height stretching the entire stand length

Options:

The option that come to my mind are

  1. Add a reservoir in front of the sump area
  2. build a tall skinny box next to the sump
  3. extend my stand back further to give more room for reservoir possibly behind the sump
  4. cut into my electrical panel and possible have some of the reservoir intruding on that area

What do you guys think? I don't really love any of the options lol. 1 would make my stand look crowded I feel. 2 seems it might be a pain to build and possibly not user friendly. 3 would be adding length to my stand which I would rather not, but a few inches might be a option. And 4 seems like it would take away why I have a seperate panel i nthe first place, to keep electronics away from water!

Any input is greatly appreciated!

How about cut into the sumps space and build on into the sump?

How about cut into the sumps space and build on into the sump?

you talking about modifying the actual sump to make it smaller?

yeah that would work but idk if im ready to cut apart my precious eshopps haha. Im going to model all my option out tomorrow so I can see the differences!

Looking good man, stand looks great. I'd not cut into the electrics area for the ATO reservoir - it's nice to keep that all separate. I'd build a tall skinny ATO reservoir and slide it in front of the sump.

So after seeing everything to scale I really decided on two options. In front of the sump, or next to the sump.

With it next to the sump I will still have a good amount of room infront of ATO and sump to store things, but I am thinking it is not going to be very user friendly the snug up there.

Total Volume 6.2g

With it in front of the sump it will be a lot easier to access however it is about a gallon less and leaves very limited storage room next to the sump.

Total Volume 5.1g

What do you guys think??

If it can fit in next to the sump I'd go with that option, it will look neater and leave you more space in the front where you will invariable want to store something. Should be easy enough to slide out.

What kind of dimensions is that? Why not add something on the side say an ottoman kind of storage space? and place a 5g container in it with some sort of small pump?

I'll have to wait till at least my stand is done till I can get a feel for the ato. In either case I will prob just make one myself out of acrylic. Real life sucks hopefully I'll be able to start my stand soon!

So its been awhile since an upgrade, due to new baby and house the stand construction has slowed a bit. But this weekend tragedy struck, while using the new tank as a frag tank at a show, my buddy just caught the corner on the wall and cracked the corner of the tank!

Although it sucks I think it is actually a blessing in disguise. I'll be getting a non reef ready new tank and will be looking into overflows(most likely from glass-holes) to use instead of the bulky bottom drilled these usually come with.

So my questions are:

What overflow would you recommend and why?

What size overflow would you run on this sized tank?

Thanks for the help in advance guys!

I'll be in the same stage soon, so following. Really nice CADs. Great idea with the shelves on the side.

Thanks!

I had another idea last night as I sat on a tiny bar stool using my home depot bucket as a work station for water tests and dosing. Why not incorporate sliding shelves the comes out on the front or side of tank right under the tank? This will be a bit trIcky as id like it to be able to slide without having the doors open.

Many drawer slides like Blum would allow you to do that. It looks like your sump might be kind of tight in there - or does the right side open too? Might be a bad idea, but if you used flexible tubing you could put the entire sump on a pullout drawer. Many of these drawer slides are rated at 175 - 400 pounds.

yeah I was going to do that but figured since I have access all the way aroudn my tank it might be overkill lol. I'm thinking to make a frame like 2" elevated above the stand so the tank would sit on this and the draw would be underneath it.

Looks very well though out and i have to say side will give you more room for the front to store chemicals and materials. Do you know what type of ATO ?

yeah I have the Tunze nano osmolator and i agree I think the room upfront will be awesome

Your Paint skills are amazing :D

Gonna be a sweet build!

ha thanks man. Gotta love paint!

So every store local is out of stock on the tank I want so this will hopefully give me some time to focus on starting this stand! On a positive note I managed to pick up a like new mp10wes for $100 so I'll now have two on my tank!!
