Just wondering how often everyone tests.

In the past I have tried to test once a week, but I noticed that I was having a massive algae outbreak. I did a lot of reading and figured out algae could take up nutrients rapidly so that the test results come back as 0ppm even though there are excessive nutrients. Now I hardly ever test NO3 and PO4, and instead just look at the algae (or lack of algae) in the tank.

Just wondering what everyone thoughts are on this subject.

There is no set answer to this as each tank is different. You can get 10 different answers as to what people feel they need to test for.

In general, the more mature the system (assuming husbandry and such is adequate) the less testing is required.

Rarely.. Mostly only when I have some strange desire to play scientist.. Otherwise I just keep an eye on everything and make sure nothing seems off..
