uwdanno
I have a 4 gal tank with the return pump set to about 56 gph. This turns my tank over >14 times per hour. Its still a new tank and has only been up for about 3-4 weeks. I'm waiting to see how my corals react before I upgrade to higher gph. Right now I have LPS and softies. What is everyone else using for a turnover rate? Link to comment
tibbsy07
I aim for 10-20ish for a reef tank. Some suggest higher, and I would, my corals just don't like that much. I'm currently at 100 gph (lowest setting on the AC70) for my 5 gallon. It's even a bit much. Link to comment
NorthGaHillbilly
In my 20 gallon ive got 1300 gph, but have most of the flow in the upper portion of the water column and only a light undertow going on down below. In smaller tanks it wan be really tough to get good turn over without directly blasting everything tho. Link to comment
rod00007
It can be hard to find a happy medium between good flow and blasting corals in a 4 gallon tank. I have a jbj pico that the hang on back filter is enough but Its a big 50 gallon rated fitler on a 3 gallon. The GSP in this tank is spreading like crazy. I tried to put a power head in the thing and I could never get that to work. I also have an ecopico that is 12 inchs tall that has a powerhead and that with the filter gives it a perfect balance aimed towards the front of the tank which is 10 by 10 by 12. You have to find the balance that helps your corals grow and fish thrive. Link to comment
