Can you end up harvesting to much cheato at once?

I just harvested my softball sized ball of cheato in half, now all of a sudden I'm seeing small pieces turning white. These white spots were not there before. Should I not have removed that much chaeto?

Sometimes you can remove a bit too much, but unless there is significant damage, even really small pieces will eventually grow back. The white pieces are typically where damage from tearing occurs and is relatively normal, unless it all decides to turn white.
