My First Reef TMC 30L

So I decided to take the plunge (pun intended) into reef tanks. I have had freshwater aquaria on and off since childhood, but have stayed away from saltwater setups due to the prevailing wisdom that you have to have huge tanks.

Lately I have seen a number of nano setups and after doing some reading decided I should give it a go! I will update this as time goes on and the tank develops. Firstly a basic review of the tank setup procedure.

Bought some pre-mixed RO water and live sand at the weekend, collected my tank and live rock yesterday. The tank is a 30l (8 gallon) TMC All in one.

Everything looked to be pretty good quality, only complaint that the one-way valve to go between the air-pump and my skimmer was missing.

Instructions are fairly clear, if a little scattered. Because the kit contains components for a number of manufacturers you have to read the instructions for each one separately. No different to if you bought the items separately I guess, but not as all in one as it might be.

I added my live Argonite sand, and live rocks and then filled the tank with my water, I left the light unmounted for this as it was easier pouring the water into the back portion of the tank which left the sand/rocks fairly undisturbed.

The skimmer, was the only thing that took a bit of working out, still not sure if I have the airflow tuned correctly...

Tank is now settled and ready to cycle. A low quality capture from the webcam I have sat next to it below :-) I will give the inside of the tank a bit of a wipe down and post higher quality photo this evening.

Here is an better image of the tank.

If you look really closely at the grassy rock at the front of the tank you will see one of the two Aptasia I have spotted so far!

And here is the tank with the moonlight led turned on.

The light that comes with the tank is an Aquaray miniled 500

Still planning that while the tank settles, but I am thinking on having a bit of a Zoanthid garden near the top, some Candy Cane coral around the middle, and possibly Ricordea Mushroom near the bottom. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Blastos, Flavias, Zoas, or acans are great easy corals. I have had all of these and have had nothing but great successs in growth, feeding, and them opening up nicely.
