D3monic
After a long Hiatus from reefing. I have finally come full circle. Yesterday I broke down and ordered a jbj 28gal pro. Was on sale for $500 on amazon. Should be here before the weekend. Now the fun part is figuring out the livestock list. I know for sure that I want a group of sexy shrimp. Maybe a pair of possum wrasse, catalina goby, tailspot blenny, some form dragonette , even a shrimp goby pair would be neat. Been out of the game so long I forgot most of what I knew about reefing. Pretty sure most the faces here have changed since then as well. Any how, pictureless threads a worthless thread so i'll be sure to get some up as soon as the tank gets here and I begin to aquascape. Off to aquascape chicago in my quest for a new LFS. Later friends. April 2016 FTS Link to comment
D3monic
Holy crap, tank's already out for delivery. Shipped out of indiana. Will be here in less than 24 hours from my order. Link to comment
Eightbiht
Hey, I thought I recognized you... A couple years ago I remember seeing your threads over dart frogs, you had a very inspiring vivarium. Was it on vivariumforums, or dartfrogz? You still have dart tanks going? Well anyway, if your aquascaping is as good as your viv building, this is going to be a really nice tank. I'm looking forward to how this turns out, I'll be following Link to comment
D3monic
Na frogs are gone, I developed severe allergy issues from all the tanks. Mostly fungus and fern spores I think. After Dart frogs I was into planted tanks. Was into those for a while until I was unexpected evicted from my foreclosure and the assholes dumped my. 75gal in the front yard. Lost all the fish and a bad ass tank and stand that I had built. I still have a fluval ebi of crystal shrimp though. I'll post pics of my past hobbies when I'm at the PC Link to comment

D3monic
Finally picked up some live rock, was a little disappointed with the selection. Ended up picking up two large rocks =54lbs total and took a hammer and chisel to one and used the other big ass one for the center rock. Leaves me a nice size chunk to use in another tank down the road. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/BF1D929F-5AB6-47A0-83E9-3475F31E52BD.jpg.html'> I may move the rock around in the front left. Eightbiht
Looking good! When I was scaping my nano cube, I felt really limited as far as scape wise... The cube footprint is so much harder to work with compared to a nice long and deep tank. Although I think with corals your scape is going to look really nice, especially if you get some good stick growth Link to comment
1.0reef
Looks great! Love that scape! I liked my nano cube, but I thought the AIO design held me back. I'm thinking of re-setting it up, taking out the whole AIO part except the center overflow, and drilling it. What are your plans for fish? IMO that scape looks perfect for some "deeper" water/cryptic fish. Smaller hawkfish, dwarf angels, assessors/basslets, dartfish, and small wrasse may do well. Link to comment
D3monic
I got some CB sexy shrimp lined up, also looking at possum wrasse pair, maybe a tail spot blenny. Pom pom crabs, Some things on Divers den I don't want to mention because I don't want them scooped out from under me Link to comment

D3monic
Stopped by petco for a testkit and some frozen food. Sad they don't cary rods. Picked up 2 sexy shrimp male n female and a few astreas. The had a ORA red goni that was pretty but no way dropping $100 on anything from petco. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/9F813DFA-20AA-4654-A2E7-100B2FC919DF.jpg.html'> Link to comment
Eightbiht
Looking good! I'm so jealous of your sexy shrimp, although you are adding them pretty soon... Are you not worried about your cycle? I put about 12lbs of live cured rock and haven't noticed any ammonia spikes, I put some GSP and a frag of green horn coral... They seem to be doing well, but I am worried of spiking a cycle and crashing the tank Link to comment
D3monic
not too worried, it's how I weed out the weak Rock was cured and not much for life on it at all.... not even a pod to be spotted. I just seeded with two bottles of pods and a few drops of phyto. One my reefer buddies dropped of some probido supposed to jumpstart the process. I heard good things about it so we shall see. Probably not meant to handle the bio-load coming tues. though . Link to comment
Eightbiht
haha i guess we are in the same boat then I'll be moving to college and taking the 12g with me...in about 2 weeks. I figure it would be best to really leave it alone until I move, then slowly transfer my corals. But i'm getting impatient, but like most things patience is key in this hobby! Link to comment
D3monic
Placed an order with vivid for a few corals. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/CFBC001D-1C08-48BF-A642-6FA78E82334C.png.html] Waiting to hear back from some friends with a estsblished 180. They got tons of frags for me supposedly. This is their tank a few years ago http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/heather%20and%20brians/_MG_5358.jpg.html] I normally don't like leathers but that toadstool is just sexy http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/heather%20and%20brians/_MG_5348.jpg.html] Link to comment

Eightbiht
That order is looking sexy, now its time to think about placement... the hardest part imo lol Link to comment
D3monic
Awww crap, I got a lot of qt tanks to set up tonight >.< Vivid called and said they was sending my order out for 10:30 am delivery tomorrow so that puts it around same time as my divers den order... Not to mention its a raid night (World of Warcraft thing) I called them back, all but the gorg and tabling acro where in same system so maybe just two coaral QT tanks. As for the fish i'll play that one by ear. Probably qt by the bag.... Or I'll get impatient double dip everything and dump it right in... We shall see. That order is looking sexy, now its time to think about placement... the hardest part imo lol yea, I already have a good mental picture of the finished product. Just need to find all the pieces. I'm sure things will get moved around a bit though. Link to comment
D3monic
I forgot how good Vivid's customer service is, Zack just called and said the strawberry shortcake wasn't looking that good and he wasn't comfy sending it out. Said color was browning a little. He's trading it up for a frag that cost almost twice as much the Blueberry smoothie acro. Just looked it up on the site and looks nice https://www.vividaquariums.com/p-13598-blueberry-smoothie-acropora.aspx Link to comment
D3monic
Picked up a few frags from some good friends. We had a long convo and discussed a lot of corals in their tanks so I forgot most the names... not that those really matter. Just that they look sexy. Handfull of Mushrooms, 5 frags of zoas and one with mixed zoas and some pulsing xenia for the gf cause she wanted something pretty and moving. (xenia high and in the back cause it's just going to crawl it's way there any how) Don't mind the cell pics http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/13806059-9717-4DED-875F-F80CC5412124.jpg.html'> This sexy beast is jedi mindtrick encrusting monti, somekind of birds nest, and that other sexy orange encruster who's name I forgot already. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/E7220C64-B3C4-44A3-AD53-8D42D8AF1200.jpg.html'> Bright green monti and a handful of shrooms not pictured. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/80CEC1E0-3D90-4408-BB3E-AF6BD6331C29.jpg.html'> Dendro and a tiny piece of a green toadstool hiding half buried in the sand. http://s194.photobucket.com/user/amplexus67/media/Garden%202014/07A4FE4C-EA4F-44E8-8546-83A512BEB466.jpg.html'> Link to comment
D3monic
I didn't think about it because I don't use them in my planted tanks, do I need to run a airstone for the fish or will the stock pumps and a jebio 10 provide enough flow for gas exchange? Link to comment
Coolhandreefer
The pumps you have will provide plenty of surface agitation for gas exchange, no need for an air stone. Btw nice fresh start, looking good! Btw, is that wooden structure in your backyard a pergola? Just wondering because I'm about to be building one. Link to comment
D3monic
Yessum, pergola, cedar picket garden fence, and a lattice privacy grill area. We moved in in Nov and I started on the yard in the spring. It was just a shitty fence and grass no trees nothing. Pics are a little outta date but will look much better in next spring. I need updated pics it's been all planted and decent looking for long time now. Link to comment
