silent1mezzo
Hello Everyone! I'm just getting into saltwater with a 10 gallon half moon tank. I've been keeping freshwater tanks for the past 10 or so years and know the difficulties of keeping parameters stable in small tanks. My question is can I start cycling my rocks in a 5 gallon bucket while I get the tank ready (still have to paint the back, bring it into work)? Do I just mix the salt, put in a pump and a heater and cover? Anythign else I need to do? Are there any supplements I should be using to help seed the rock? Link to comment
Chadf
Yes a heater and powerhead is all you need, the rock doesn't know if it's in a bucket or aquarium. Link to comment
Mirya
The only other thing you might need is light. You will need this if you have coralline encrusted live rock. The coralline will need the light to survive. Link to comment
silent1mezzo
It used to be live rock that's been out of water for who knows how long (bought it used). If I just leave the bucket open will that work? Link to comment
GMay
Yes. You do not need light on dead rock. The light will just promote unwanted algal growth. Link to comment
Halo_003
If you close the bucket there's almost zero evaporation though Link to comment
