I need help identifying these critters. I'd love to post a picture, but I don't have anything that could capture these minute creatures!

I've been having some problems with my RBTA which I have previously mentioned in the Invert forum, but he seemed fine this afternoon, even starting to split.

So tonite after lights out, I take my LED flashlight to see what he's doing and he is outside in! Almost all the tentacles are inside his body...and that's when I noticed these "things"!!!!

They are so microscopic I can't really see them even with my 3X glasses! I just notice the movement mainly and then I can see them, little brown thrip looking things. The size of the littlest sugar ant, smaller! And they are racing and I mean racing all over the rock...and they are on every part of the rock...I am freaked to the max....What are they and will they kill my tank???? They don't look like red bugs, I looked them up, they aren't nudis, they are running faster than the speed of light over the rocks! Not flat worms....what the hell are they. If they are something really bad, I'm hosed because there look to b thousands! And I have never noticed them before, and believe me I'm anal about my tank, I check it 10 times a day with my 3X glasses! They are the shape of a grain of rice, but so smalllllllll!

The only thing new in my tank is a rock of Green star polyp that was thoroughly dipped.

Please tell me they are some type of beneficial pod!

HELP!

I've been searching the internet trying to identify these things. Some people have likened them to "fleas" and they said they were copepods.....whew, I hope they are right....but anybody can chime in here...I was so freaked!

I wasn't aware that copepods moved that fast!

Probably pods :)

BTA's will split when stressed and not just when happy. Something to keep in mind. It is sort of like... "OMFG the world is ending! Quick! Clone thyself because maybe at least one of us will live!"

That's right, the new red knobby star was walking all over him and he freaked yesterday, but today he was back in his spot and bubbled up nicely so I thought he was O.K. Then I noticed he looked like he was splitting so I was prepared for that, but not this...OMGIEM o my god I'm eating myself position! :o

The will almost certainly be pods. The often explode esp in new tanks and when food is abundant but the numbers will reduce over time however be careful you are not over feeding your tank. A Mandarin will have a feast along with small wrasse and dwalf angels to name but a few. .
