DriftingNemo
Hello my fellow reefers, I've been gone for a few months and have left my tank on cruise control with no upgrades or new livestock (unlikely of me). I'm about 1/3 of the way from completing a canopy for my 15 gallon tank. It's a stupid simple design and I was wondering what type of paint I should use for this build? I know that the best colour to paint the inside of the canopy is white, but what type of paint? Emulsion? Will automotive spray paint and lacquer work for this? I know about Rustoleum Neverwet, but that stuff is out of my price range. I don't want to spend this much effort into building a canopy and then have it self destruct due to humidity. Any advice appreciated. Link to comment
farkwar
Kilz. Or spray Plastidip white. Link to comment
ChouDawg
I used Rust-Oleum spray appliance epoxy from HD for the basin/inner walls of my stand. It says to use it on metals but I didn't have any issues with it coating/sealing wood. It is easy to apply, cheap and dries with a glossy/hard type finish commonly found on refrigerators and other kitchen appliances. I poured water on it afterwards to test and have been running it for almost a year now with no issues. I was originally going to use the Kilz stuff that most people recommend but read about this stuff and decided to give it a shot. Link to comment
Boggers
Fusion is also one that is reef safe, even for plumping....forms a permanent bond so no getting it off later. Link to comment
DriftingNemo
Thank you all for the suggestions, but I've only read this just now and have finished painted my canopy. I used a couple of coats of Dulux indoor wall paint which is quick drying, then I added a few coats of automotive clear lacquer on top of the wall paint which gives a glossy finish. I won't start using the canopy until the smell of paint is completely gone. Link to comment
