IM Nuvo 30 Concerns

Hello,

I have been thinking about my tank (IM Nuvo 30) as well as other bent glass tanks, and wondering about the structural integrity of it. I have heard the stories about the issues with the nuvo 24s and 16s cracking. I have also noticed that IM has abandoned the bent glass tanks.

So should I be worried about mine?

I have an MP10 that I want to put on the tank but am worried that it will cause stress on the tank. I measured the glass thickness and it is just shy of 8mm.

What are your thoughts?

Should I be looking for a new tank?

Thanks,

Rob

Not really sure how to put this but there are so many horror stories about the glass cracking on the bent glass tanks. Kinda like a hit or miss. As for the MP10 i think you should be fine i never heard of vortech breaking or damaging the glass on the IM bent glass tanks.

If you really like the IM line of tank maybe upgrade to the fusion series i havnt heard of any horror stories yet on those tanks. At the end of the day there really is no guarantee on the glass it could break a month from now it could never break.

Thanks for the reply.

I know there are no guarantees with any tank. I just want some piece of mind and some input as to what other may have found to help prevent the cracking.

Also, in my searches I have seen a lot of post about the 16 and 24 breaking but have not really found any on the 30 or 38.

I was also looking to see if the mp10 would cause any additional stress on the tank.

Also how do you tell how old the tank is? the model # begins with 05/2012 could this be the manufacture date?

I own the nuvo 16 since it was released. I can only recall one well blogged account of the glass cracking. Still, all-in-one tanks are safer. With no overflow and sump to go wrong. My tank has the mp10 for 2+ years now without a problem. I think your worries are not statistically supported and changes to your plan will not improve them. Example, going cheap on ATO and flooding the room.

Thanks for the reply RentAscout.

I have a tendency to over-think things (i'm an engineer) and your right there is not enough evidence to my concern. I just like to have peace of mind and to feel secure that my investment in corals and house are not at risk.

You should be safe with the 30 as it was built with thicker glass, the first gen 16 and 24 are the ones that are cracking I haven't heard of many if any of the second gens with the thicker glass cracking.
