WTB Dragon's Breath Locally

Hi Guys,

So I used to have this big awesome lush dragon's breath plant back in the day and I lost it when I upgraded my tank, dont know why, I had it for almost a year and it grew like mad.

Long story short, I've probably paid like $100 in the past few weeks buying the stuff from fellow reefers on this forum and others and I've literally had 5 orders of it arrive DOA this month. Zero of those DOAs were the sender's fault and I've even had a couple of sellers send me replacements that also came DOA just because they felt bad. Its super hot down here and we cant catch a break with this weather so I just cant have the stuff shipped at this time.

Anyway, If anyone in the Broward/Miami area has any I'd love to buy a few branches. Im also open to trades, just shoot me a PM. If there is anything youre looking for, I can get my hands on it ;) Don't be shy, Even if you just have like a small branch to spare shoot me a PM, I know how fast the stuff grows.

Personal experience bears out your own - the stuff just does not ship well. It can easily survive being toted around town all day in a bag full of water - but not the temp swings common in winter/summer shipping environments. It took me six or seven tries to get some that would do anything other than turn hot pink and melt, and the last two tries involved sourcing from local stores.

Should you be on the road at some point and passing through Atlanta/Roswell I'd be happy to donate some clippings - several folks in the Atlanta Reef Club have tanks with whatever variety I have doing well.

Its funny because about 2 years ago I had some sent to me for the first time in an envelope and it went fine. So here I am thinking the stuff ships great and its just me having this string of bad luck this month. I never blamed the senders because I could tell that every single shipment was so well packed especially compared to that first shipment I got a long time ago.

I regret not trying harder to save the plant I had when it started going downhill during a tank move.

Don't feel too bad - over in either the macro or treatment subforum I have a post of an established "plant" of it suddenly going rapidly downhill - only thing I did was prune off a section for a local fellow reefer as I've done several other times in the past. Had it start to die from the anchor point up on several stolons/fronds/things. I had no idea it was this fickle as it grows like a weed in every other respect.

Nowadays I just grab the bits that are blowing around the tank - they've already separated from the main body and clearly neither is dying. Makes it less a bit less satisfactory to trade such small pieces so I usually just give them away or throw them in with the deal.

It's killing me looking at my tank right now knowing exactly where I want the dragons breath to go and that I don't have any to put there LOL
