atrox
I've got a magenta birds nest and the tips pointed, do the colors determine shape of coral. Link to comment
markalot
Green bird, ORA has a version but most look the same. Look at the ORA page for scientific name. Link to comment
atrox
Stylo? That's what I thought Link to comment
Acielot
The tips just don't look sharp like usual. My ORA Bird had defined sharp white points Link to comment
TJ_Burton
It is Seriatopora, likely S. caliendrum or S. guttatus (birds nest) Link to comment
doppelganger
stylophora doesn't have that kind of branching pattern. Google green stylo and green birdsnest and you'll see the difference. Link to comment

I've never seen a BOP w/ sharp growth tips. I think you may have a possible mistaken ID, but I'd like to see it just to be sure. It's a bird. but definitely not a plane, or SUPERMAN! Superman has a blue base w/ red polyps, and is a montipora. Sorry, I've been painting a bunch of stuff for my wife's classroom. The fumes have probably got to me a bit, lol. Also, that pic that the OP posted is 100% a BN. Link to comment

I never questioned the BOP name of it...?... here is an older photo of mine: Untitled by GHill762, on Flickr Link to comment
Acielot
I don't have a pic on hand of mine but it's growth is identical to ghills with a more green hue. Link to comment

Yep, that's a BOP . I guess my idea of sharp tips is a little different. While those do appear to be a bit pointed, I've had various strains of BN in the past that had extremely sharp tips. So sharp that they would easily puncture doubled up 3mm bags even if they barely touched them. I once cut myself on a Tubbs BN branch when cleaning my tank. My hand swelled up huge within a couple of hours, no fun. IME, the Tubbs BN, and ORA pink BN have grown the sharpest growth tips. I ship those triple bagged with another "sleeve" (bag that's cut open on both ends) over the frag to help prevent them from puncturing all the way through the bags in shipping. Even being essentially quadruple bagged they still make me nervous, lol. Link to comment

I also wouldn't consider it pointy compared to the regular pink birds with the skinny branches.. also, even in my photo it's much sharper than the ORA stock photo: Link to comment

I've got roughly 50 or so BOP frags (I've had my colony for about 5 years) currently and they all look like the ORA pic. Link to comment
