What material and where to get for baffles

Also if someone could help me with the baffles layout I'd appreciate it. The up down flow is really throwing me for a loop. I am going to be making the sump out of a 40b and I would like it to flow from right left. I dont need a place to have a skimmer and would like a majority of it to be an area for refugium. Thanks for any help guys

For a solid baffle, use 1/4" glass and use aquarium silicone to secure it (let it cure for 48 hours). I like to have the glass shop polish the edeges that will be exposed in your tank.

However, sounds like you basically want it as a fuge. For a Chaeto fuge, without a sand bed, you might just use egg crate to separate the Chaeto ball from your return pump. I'd probably also get a prefilter for it: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/maxi-jet-double-pack-prefilter-1.html You'd still be able to put your heater in there and use a filter sock for some mechanical filtration.

If its for a fuge, you don't need, or want, a lot of flow. I'd just use a Cobalt MaxiJet 1200 for a return pump and skip the elaborate bubble trap baffles.

glass or acrylic will work, I've always used acrylic and never had a problem. if you go acrylic I would recommend a good thick acrylic (or glass for that matter), I get a fair amount of flex out of my first baffle..

here is my current sump, basically it's just understanding how the baffles work. water comes down to the sump on the far right, then goes over the first baffle, it then goes into my fuge area where it will go under then middle baffle (if you look closely you can see the gap at the bottom), then it goes over the last. I usually keep the water level just above the last baffle so no new bubbles are introduced, basically the last two baffles are to keep algae and critters out of my return pump and to keep bubbles from making it to the display..

And of course one can still apply the very most simple setup with just a pair of height spaced baffles, still works just fine for a fuge.

That true, I do really just want a place to grow macros for my nutrient export. I would like to have some substrate down there though. maybe I just need one piece of glass like alexraptor said to seperate the fuge part from the return where I will also put the float valves for my ato. It doesnt need to be pretty just practical for me.
