Yellow belly hippo not so yellow

So I got a yellow belly hippo from my LFS on 5-22-14 he was about 2". Currently he's about 3" and I still don't see any yellowing developing. His stomach is just light blue/whitish color. Just wondering any reefers out there who have own one of this fish before is going through what I am.

The fish is extremely healthy in my 180g, fat belly and eats like a pig. Only other tangs in there is my purple tang and desjardini. Is it still too early for the yellow to develop? I've seen smaller size yellow bellys before with the yellowing coloring coming in.

These pictures are terrible and doesn't show the true color of the hippo. He's not that purple in person and his belly is bluish white color. LEDs washes out the color of the fish when I'm taking pics with my iphone

If he's healthy and eating well, I wouldn't worry about it. The color will develop, or it won't, but there's nothing you can do except provide a good environment for him. It's also completely possible that the smaller fish is stunted and is much older than your tang. Yours is probably just very healthy and just won't get yellow until he's 5" - 6" or more.

I came to see pics of the said yellow fish that isn't yellow and I'm really disappointed that there's no pics :(

But like others said above, if he's eating and showing healthy signs, colors can vary (I'm finding that true in regards to everything, even corals..)

Beginning to think that it won't start showing until he gets bigger...

diet and stress can have impacts on coloration.. what is the fish's diet? plenty of mixed algaes?

I feed nori daily, pellets every other day and a mixture of pellets, mysis, reef chili, and rods once a week.

In the pic there is definetly a section on the belly where its a lighter colour it will come eventually or it just won't. Kinda like juvenile black occelaris clowns start with a lot of orange then it all fades away to black. Feed it lots of different algeas and experiment with different types and colours.

The whitish belly is more noticeable in person. The leds makes the fish look completely blue. Im just hoping the yellow will develop soon. I've seen several yellow belly's smaller then I fish I have and the color has started coming in.

Cyclopeeze and red gracillaria turns my yellow tangs almost golden. Try that, they love it.

I've been feeding cyclopeeze since forever I will try the red gracilliria. If you don't mind could you share a pic of your tang?
