Halo_003
Before I get any more wetware. Tank is a Deep Blue 20Long AC70 Oddysea 72W T5HO(18") lighting - just got a timer too! BLISS Koralia Nano 425 Eheim Jager 75W Also have a spare 10G that I plan on making into a sump, and a CPR PF-Nano Overflow box to go with it. Here's what I'm considering. Jebao RW4/WP10 - thoughts on these? Are they big enough for this tank? Need help with lighting, I would like to keep it relatively inexpensive. Don't exactly have $500 plus to drop on it right now. I'd say I'm looking in the sub $300 range or so. Under preferred. If it's two separate fixtures that's fine, just means I can spread out the hurt a bit more. IE - Something like a Nanobox Duo would be hard to pull off at least right now. (Sadly) Some of what I was considering was a Reefbreeders Value fixture, 2x Nano-Lite's, or 2x PAR 30/38's. Dimming would be a plus here. I don't know if a Kessil has enough coverage to at least look even on the edges but those are really nice as well and I could see maybe spending the coin for one if one would do it. IE one A350W. Suggestions on a return pump for sump? I think the height will be around 50" or so, building a new stand as well. Stand will be 42" tall, not sure of the difference from sump to display yet though. ATO recommendations? I was thinking of the JBJ or the Tunze Nano. I have to paint the tank. Any thoughts on color and what kind of paint would work well? Farther down the line I may add a skimmer eventually, probably a small HOB compatible one though. Either a CAD PLS-50 Elite or a Reef Octopus NS-80 unless I can find a decent cheap one locally. Any input would be much appreciated. Edit: The tank may have to be broken down into a 4G or 7.5G cube for school next year, I'm staying at home local this year so anything that works with a smaller tank is a huge plus, for example the lighting and ATO. dylan1464
As for paint use krylon fusion...so much equipment and possibilities out there I reccomending what to get LOL Link to comment
Halo_003
I'll put that on the list. Might make a dedicated thread for the light question though. Link to comment
apneaAddict
A WP10 would be an excellent choice. As far as the lighting goes I dont think an expensive unit is necessary for shallow tanks like this. I Just switched from a 20L to a 20H due to the table that it must sit on but I would go with a reef radiance type of light as long as it is full spectrum. Like you said...reef breaders, ebay, amazon... they run about $100 and are essentially all the same. On my 180g I need penetration, coverage, and more power so I went for a real CREE setup. Yes I could put a rapid led fixture over my nano for $300 and dial it down to 20% but why not just get a full spectrum cheap fixture that I run at 60-70% that I could essentially throw away every two years if I wanted to. Thats just my thought process, also my cheapy has been running strong for 2.5 years now. I would spring for a better light if an upgrade was in your future, otherwise I'd put the extra 200 toward a skimmer (PLS-50 is my next addition as well!) or other essentials. Link to comment
Halo_003
Like this one? I was thinking with 120 degree optics it should be fine. (Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231257844157) Should I get an ATO or light first? What would be a good ATO w/ pump for $100 or less? Also, would that light or a CurrentUSA Marine Orbit+ be better? I would like to have maybe a couple monti caps and some birdsnest, not much SPS otherwise. Link to comment
Halo_003
Any thoughts on that light? I might buy it this week if it's decent. Link to comment
Red_Blenny
Any thoughts on that light? I might buy it this week if it's decent. What's the dimension of the tank? If you can, go for a 24" fixture instead of an 18" fixture because you get better bulb selection with the 24" fixture (for example, ATI bulbs). In addition, I'd avoid the Oddysea fixture mainly because it's a crap brand. If you have to stick with the 18" T5 fixture, go with Aquaticlife.... or LEDs (like Nanobox) Link to comment
Tamberav
Go with RW4, I was not impressed with the wp series. Everyone ooo and awwwed about how good the WP was and then the RW came out and suddenly WP series wasn't as good as all the initial reviews made it sound. Link to comment

Im trying to replace it with LED though. This is what I'm looking to get: http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=231257844157 I would love to get a Nanobox but to cover the footprint of the 20L Dave doesn't have anything really affordable. Cheapest from him I think would be a Duo at $450 or $650 for the 24"Quad. Link to comment
Halo_003
Three more questions: How loud is the RW4? Should I get a new light or get the ATO first? Would the Current USA Marine Orbit+ (if I was to get that) support SPS like the birdsnest and a couple of monti caps maybe on the top of my rocks? Link to comment
Halo_003
For right now, I added a fan to my fixture diy style. I also changed out two bulbs and will change out the other two soon. I'll hold off on a light and see what I want to do when I can afford a good fixture. In the mean time I'll just replace the stock POS oddysea bulbs with coralife bulbs, the two I got are quite nice so far. Think I will wait for the Nano Maxspect Riptide and see how reviews of it are versus the RW4. Additionally, I think ATO wise I'll go with the Tunze Nano 3152, I think its the best option. Halo_003
Definitely going to get a Tunze Nano ATO within two weeks or so. Also going to replace my other two stock bulbs which are old and ugly. Right now I think my lighting in the future will be a Nanobox Duo or a Quad. The price kills me but I think it'd be worth it to get the best option from the beginning rather than a half measure, which is what I started out in the hobby with by getting a crappy Oddysea T5HO fixture. My list of possible lights is roughly this: Maxspect 27" Razor Nanobox Duo Nanobox Quad (24") Radion G3 XR30w Kessil A360W AI Hydra AI Hydra 26 I am unhappy with the news on the Riptide (Or Gyre now), being delayed and the pricing on the larger models, so eventually I will move to an RW-4 as well. Spiderguardnano
Save your self the trouble and just get the tunze 3155 to many problems and issues with the single sensor tunze nano Link to comment
Halo_003
Good idea. Will be going with the 3155. Also will be getting a Nanobox Duo hopefully end of next month. Link to comment
