Starting a new 60 Gallon Rimless cube and would love your input!

You guys have always given me great advice and building tanks with you has been a lot of fun.

I have had my 14 Gallon Biocube for about two weeks and already the itch for a bigger tank began. I searched my local Craigslist high and low and came across a 60 Gallon Rimless for sale. I have ALREADY purchased the tank but would like your input on the included parts and where I should go from here.

Tank: 60 Gallon Rimless Cube - 24" x 24" x 24" drilled and plumbed.

Stand: Pretty generic black stand that needs some paint work.

Sump: Standard 20 gallon.

Protein Skimmer: Can't remember the name right now and it is sitting in the store will update when I get it. It was rated for 150 - 190 gallons and had a custom impeller on it, was almost too much for the tank.

Light: Kessil A350W with arm.

Unfortunately the front panel of the tank had a nice sized chip and the glass had a 4" scratch on it, so I talked to the guy at the shop and received some rough estimates from Lee Mar to replace it.

They sold me everything for $700.00 + whatever replacing the front panel will cost me.

Some questions I have: (Will update as more come to me)

1) Should I replace the front panel with the regular glass that all the other sides are made up of or replace it with Starphire Glass?

2) Is the lighting going to be sufficient for a mainly softy tank?

Hello,

For a softy tank you should be ok with one light. When you want to increase your growth you can always add another one or two to the tank. You may want to see what people are saying about the two lens sizes that are available with those fixtures online.

As for your tank I would use the same type and grade of glass that the tank manufacturer used as using the incorrect glass can have a major issues later down the road. Regular window glass will not hold the pressures of an aquarium as there are hundreds of pounds of pressure being put on the faces.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I won't be doing the glass replacement Lee Mar will. I have the option of replacing it with the standard glass or Starphire, so I was just wondering if it was worth it to do the one panel or if I will regret it since one side will be noticeably clearer than the others.
