since they are brackish fish could they be acclimated over to saltwater? The real question is would It kill the mantis I am getting and eat corals?

I've had these puffers before and they are awesome fish - yes, they can be acclimated to full saltwater! They definitely are predators though, so I don't know how well they would do with a mantis or even other fish... you'd have to do some reading. As far as corals, I've never had them together, but I would imagine not. Good luck :)

I know he mantis might eat the puffer as this is a risk you take with any fish with a mantis. I jwant to now if he will nip corals

I have 2 GSP in a mixed reef tank and they've done fine. The first 2 corals I placed in the tank were a Duncan and a Kenya tree, they picked at both and I actually moved the Duncan to the refugium for a couple days but after returning it they never bothered it or any other coral ever again. That original Duncan has at least 30 heads now. There're zoas, softies, LPS and SPS in my tank and the worst the puffers may do is try to steal food from them occasionally.

They do pick at snails and the hermits but the for the most part they're not able to get through the thick shells, they will attack softer shelled crabs and shrimp though. If you get a bubble algae outbreak you won't be able to use Emerald Crabs to clear it up or use Peppermint shrimp to thin out an Aiptasia infestation.

I don't think I'd trust them with a mantis, either the puffers or the mantis are going to get eaten.

Okay I wouldn't be to concerned for the mantis even If he was small since he could dive in his hole but the puffer might be a snack later one.
