KP_Reef_Tank
Hi Nano-Reefers, So I recently picked up the RAPIDLED Dimming Onyx fixture. The fixture is outfitted with 8 CREE XP-G Cool White. I keep reading that 4000k is a better choice. Should I open up the fixture? I've never worked with leds before, but if it's feasible I'll go for it. Thanks! Link to comment
evilc66
Question is, do you like the way it looks to you now? If yes, then I wouldn't mess with it. If you feel there is something missing in terms of red color rendition in your corals, then you can change it. The ratio of white to blue is about right to do a direct swap to neutral whites. As to how you will swap the LEDs out, I'm not sure. Haven't looked inside an Onyx fixture to see if it's a single large MCPCB or lots of stars mounted to the heatsink. Link to comment
KP_Reef_Tank
Actually, I do like the current look. If all the n. white is accounting for is red- then the fixture is fine for me. Link to comment
