The upgrade

so i'v had a 30G reef tank for about a year before deciding i needed an upgrade. the tank was a converted Juwel 125 that ended up looking like a science project by the time i tore in down.

the upgrade has taken about 4 months and because i'm a poor uni student me and my mate (a fellow reefer) built everything, as in the stand and the tank. i'm just now getting to the point where i can talk about the tank cause i'm pretty sure its not all about to crash to the floor.

Tank Dimensions

80cm x 70cm x 30cm

Lighting

nano box duo 24"

Filtration

i'm using my old tank and converted it to a refugium. it has 13lb of live rock, seachem matrix and macro algae.

reef octopus HOB protein skimmer ( rated to 600L).

fluid reactor for GFO

Flow

Main display - vortec mp10 and one of those little scicce wave maker things

refugium- juwel pump (500 Lh) scicce powerhead

Live stock

banggai cardinal - 3

percula clown - 2

chromis-2

oblique dotty back- 1

looking for a mystery wrasse.

the idea for this tank was top down viewing, while going for a very uncluttered and clean look since my other tank was pretty much the opposite. The made in africa tank was a big inspiration as well as the AQUA ( our city's aquarium)

i also want this tank to be SPS dominate but i will probably end up with some acans and what not.

i will have so picture up of the build in the ext couple days. as well as what the tank look is like today. i have some rock to add to it yet (its being cured)

Looking good. I really love those Leopard Wrasses and that Mystery Wrasse, so awesome. What settings are you running your quad on?

thanks mate, i tried to get a decent shot of the mystery wrasse but he's a bit camera shy, where as the leopard loves to flash me during feeding time.

the quad is currently running of 200 blues and 180 white. i'm still trying to find that sweet spot, i ordered a retro kit from dave so i will be running 4 t5s when that gets here.

what are you running your retrofit on?

Happy New Year. :naughtydance:

I do a 2 hour ramp to 255 : 235 with T5s on for 10 hours (sorry, totally missed this question) - would probably be a little lower if it was a quad but I'm trying to push as much light everywhere as possible.

happy new year to you to bud. :owned: (its how i feel this morning)

yeah that's basting the light, what T5 combo are you using? ive got a retrokit coming in the mail

i'v actually turned it down a little since then cause everything was looking a little pale, its light or nutrients or both. still trying to crack that code.

I use 1 C+ and 1 B+ ; I'm working on dropping the nutrients at the moment - have a feeling once they are down a little more I'll drop the intensity a bit and see what happens.

Why is it you all put ~40 gallon tanks in the large reef forum? :D

I did it because the forum guidelines said anything over 30 is large. Perhaps they should be rewritten. :)

Hi Jake,

nice tank, following along. Why is it you all put ~40 gallon tanks in the large reef forum? :D

thanks mate

i totally agree with you. over here 800L is considered on the small side of average for a reef tank.

my tank just didnt feel very nano-y anymore so in large reefs it went
