NanoFever
So with the limited space of an AOI for media and keeping within the whole concept of an AOI I was wondering other than converting one's media baskets for 1 small "refugium" what I could do to accomplish the same thing while keeping my media baskets. I was thinking of some type of DIY tray to fill the empty space in the back chamber where the return pump is. The water supply would come from the overflow from the media chambers on the tank and either have a drain in the bottom to fill the return chamber or drain off towards the rear wall of the tank. I was thinking either DIY with acrylic or Plexiglass or 3D printing something. Thoughts? Link to comment
evanski
Take a look at this... http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Innovative-Marine-Nuvo-16-Package-Deal-IM16Bundle.htm This is a pretty good deal for two media racks and one refugium. The fuge takes the place of one of the two second chambers, enough to grow a decent ball of chaeto. They also sell submergable lights for a fuge. Link to comment
NanoFever
Yes, I am aware of those. However, I am running a skimmer and a media reactor in those chambers. Was just thinking of another way I might be able to utilize space while staying AIO. Link to comment
NanoFever
Here is a TERRIBLE sketch of what I was thinking in my head. I snagged a pick off google and added my own bob ross skills to it! Link to comment
Muddy Waters
interested to see what folks say about this, seems it could work. I have seen "don't ask me where" that some had made a shallow "pan" similar in look to your drawing but instead of holes he made a slit in the middle (nearly end to end) and install a vertical algae scrubber. I wish I could tell you more, been looking at SO much info , I've not a clue where I read it. found it, this is what I seen, http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/299435-diy-internal-algae-turf-scrubber-for-biocube-29/ Link to comment
lilmatty5dimes
that would be awesome. it' would be kinda of like a drip pan for a wet/dry sump. keep us informed of what you do. Link to comment
