cswan19
I went to the LFS a few days ago on June 14 and picked up a really cool gobstopper palythoa coral with two heads. But only one of the heads has opened up. The one head was closed at the LFS too but I figured it was just because the guy had his hands in the tank. I'm getting pretty worried. I float acclimated it for about 30 - 40 minutes when I first got it and then I did a 3 minute dip to hopefully rid of any pests. I don't know much about palythoas but was told they are great beginner corals which is why I got it. Its been 4 days since I got it and I still hadn't seen it open up, so I decided to do another dip just now (in case something was munching on it, though I couldn't see anything) for about 2-3 minutes, rinse it and put it back in the tank. Here are some pictures of the coral. This is the first day I got it, and about 3 hours after being in the tank. Notice the small black thing on the top of the closed polyp. The polyp opened up just barely very briefly and soon after the black thing fell off and it stayed minimally open for a bit and closed back up. Here it is slightly open with the black thing still attached. Here are some pictures of having it out of the water so I could get some more shots. I took a bunch from different angles of the paly in hopes someone could identify the problem. And now, here it is right after being dipped and rinsed and put back in the tank. Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. I really don't want to lose this coral, it is so amazing. Also here are my water parameters in case they are useful information. The tank is a 5 gallon Fluval Spec V with Current USA Orbit marine LED system. pH:8.2 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 5 ppm Calc: 320 (I know it is low, I am currently dosing in the attempt to bring it up) Alkalinity: 10 dKH Salinity: 1.025 Temp: 75.6*F Like I said I have been dosing nano code A and B dosing supplements to raise calcium and alkalinity levels. 2.5 mL a day for the past 3 days.
