I did a water change last week and it has been out of Wack sense. I have been dosing with Reef Builder to raise the Alk and it did a great job and I finally got it to 11dkh last night and I tested today to see if I needed to dose again and I was down to 5 dkh. Please help Link to comment
kalireefer
Just a guess... but I would check with another test kit and check the expiration date on your kit if you haven't already. Someone with more knowledge will chime in to help I'm sure. Happy reefing. Link to comment
05XRunner
What test kit. Either you messed up and didn't realize it or it expired and not testing properly. You only have those few corals no way it would drop like that in one day Link to comment

Just unsure why it would do that so quickly. Rrrrrrrrr What test kit. Either you messed up and didn't realize it or it expired and not testing properly. You only have those few corals no way it would drop like that in one day It's an API. And I have checked it 3 time over the course of 3 hours. It's still a good test. I do have 4 fish, snails, emerald crab, serpent star, and hermits. Link to comment
Grumblecakes
Make sure you are doing the test right. If i remeber correctly the API test has some waiting involved between reagents and drops and lots of shaking. if you do not follow the API instructiosn (the ones in the book not on the card) your alk results will be way off Link to comment
Wilkinsontnt
I am going to test again be right back with results Link to comment
CrazyCarl
I agree no way it could be dropping that fast unless. I am thinking either your current test is not accurate or your previous one wasn't. I wouldn't place too much stock in what Green Star Polyps do, I have had mine stay closed for a week or longer for no apparent reason, then come back like nothing happened. Link to comment
seabass
Have you tested calcium and magnesium since after the alkalinity crash? Did you notice a precipitation event? Do you dose other products? Do you use a chemical phosphate remover (like GFO) which can affect alkalinity? Link to comment
skimlessinseattle
Why are you trying to control the alkalinity in a 40b with only 4 corals? Why are you dosing to 11dKH? Link to comment
BattleAthletics
To enhance growth skimless in seattle. GFO will drop alk though, are you running a skimmer too? Link to comment
