Best idea ever

So we all like the look of an open top tank. We also like containing the animals inside. Every now and then, we would all find a dried up exotic fish on our carpets. What if you took a rimless tank, make it so the water flows over the glass and into overflows that extend a few inches away from the aquarium. Once a fish jumps out of the tank, it would hopefully land into the overflow and would be sent into a holding tank in the sump area. I would love to build a system like this one day and this might bring reef tanks one step closer into being free from lids.

Yeah zeroedge beat you to it I'm afraid. It would be cool to see pico sized tanks built this way if you could do it without violating any patents .

I've seen zero edge tanks, but a way of preventing fish from escaping the whole system is something I'd be interested in. A fish could easily leap out of a zero edge tank.

Your idea has def been produced for years now, but +1 for the thought!

The way you're explaining the picture you painted.. you could go with a custom glass/acrylic lid/cover, that only boarders 2-4 inches to the center of the tank, leaving the 70-80% of the tank open to the elements. By doing so, you could also opt to get the center piece added as well "T-Top" style, and attach it back on when you might be traveling, or just when you arent displaying your tank for anyone.

ps... I am already in the works on making this same exact setup for my Nuvo 16.
