Amy
Does anyone know if you can use the carbon/ammonia bags that fit in the aqua clear filters for saltwater tanks? It says on the box for freshwater only but need to know if its safe for saltwater? Link to comment

If it says freshwater only, I wouldn't use it. Just get some bulk carbon and some media bags and make your own that you can refill. Or use a product like Chemipure blue that come with carbon, granular ferric oxide and other good stuffs. Link to comment
Polarcollision
I've noticed not all carbon works as well. I forget the name of this type, but the carbon that fizzes when it first hits water has worked the best for me. Tried the kind petco carries--Fluval, I think. It didn't make any difference in water clarity or nutrient control like the fizzy type does. I also read that the fizzy type is what you use if you have tangs to prevent MHLLE, so I figure it's probably better for the other fish too. Link to comment
farkwar
API carbon fizzes, the kind in the milk carton. I like BRS ROX GAC myself, doesnt fizz. Very little rinsing needed. You can buy Boyds bags from Premium Aquatics, the best media bags I have found. Link to comment
