Curious what you 18 owners out there do for filtration?

I'm currently coming off an IM Nuvo 8 with an inTank basket with floss and Chempure Elite. The CAD doesn't come with a basket nor does inTank make one...

I'm intrigued by the idea of the new CAD skimmer which would be below the top of the tank (i.e not visible) which I LOVE because my tanks at my desk and want to keep things as clean as possible.

I'll have a nice assortment of inverts, some softies, LPS, at least a single flower nem and a clown - all moved over from my 8. Plan to keep the stocking the same, just more.

Suggestions?

I'm in the same boat as you. Just received an 18g mini II yesterday. I literally searched for hours yesterday trying to find what people use for filtration. I found nothing. I'm either going to make my own media basket, or I'm going to cut my sponge in half height wise. Then I'll be able to use carbon and filter floss on top of it. Hopefully someone will make a nice intank media basket soon

I believe intank is working on something for the cad owners. I run floss on top of the sponges, skimmer and reactor w/ cabon. I Haven't had to run gfo or purigen yet.

I thought of cutting the sponges and layering them, sponge;carbon;sponge;purigen;sponge;floss, but not sure how effective it would be because the way the water flows over the wall. Imo you would need some sort of water director to allow the overflow to flow down the middle of the chamber instead of just down the back wall. Hopefully something comes out soon.

It's been a slow process, but I've finally put some time aside for this tank. Back to my filtration question...

There are four "chambers" in the back of the 18. The first is the overflow with a gap in the bottom for the water to flow into the the chamber #2 - which is just like my Nuvo and I understand this. Chamber #2's wall on the other end is about half-height WITH a gap at the bottom - so effectively, water is not directed through this area - some through the bottom, some over the top. My assumed use for this is for the heater, but with two openings, not sure how effective this is. Then there's a large area in the middle and a fourth chamber against the other wall, but this one appears to be totally useless as the return pump hangs from the display divider and also is not water tight at the bottom.

My main question is re: Chamber #2 - is the gap at the bottom designed to accommodate their simmer and/or reactor or a mistake in production?

Cadlights?

Thank you!

InTank "says" there are plans somewhere in "the pipeline" but I've been hearing that since January... Would be interesting to hear from them soon! :ninja:

Chamber 2 is for the skimmer. It hangs on the piece of glass that goes 3/4 of the way to the top. The water level in mine is about an inch below the top of that glass piece, so water can only glow under it.

Without a skimmer or any hardware in back, would the levels in all three back chambers of your tank equalize to that of the display side?

Hi, Diverseyboats

The rear chambers of the 18G tank is controlled by the surface skimmers of the tank. with or without hardware, the levels in the display and filter chambers are not effected.

Thanks

^^^ this exactly! they have designed it so that the return pump is just powerful enough to maintain a waterlevel where there is the same water in to water out ration or every aio would equalize I am amzed at how they do this since if even a few more millilitres of water flow though the pump faster then the overflow it would slowly drain the rear compartment.
