Dang, I really want to know where you found those reactor containers. They are perfect. I was planning to just get large diameter PVC, put a screw cap on one end and seal the other and fill it with media. I'd put fittings as needed, but I wouldn't be able to see the media to adjust the flow rate.

I got them from E-Bayfor about $8 each and they have a reusable filter pad. Search for "inline empty refillable clear cartridge 2" x 10" with 1/4" FPNT"

Or try this link.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/inline-empty-refillable-clear-cartridge-2-x-10-with-1-4-FPNT-/140895017425?pt=Small_Kitchen_Appliances_US&hash=item20cdff59d1

Progress.......

DIY Clamp to hold the reactor tube used 2" PVC cut to 1&1/4" split in half, install hinge and latch. Use the 2" PVC to bend the latch to correct curve.

Did you use the bulk heads that comes with the tank? I read about that it is not a standard size.

Where did you get the red PVC? Looks cool!

What light will you be using for the tank. I am thinking about the Kessil A360WE. They just news release a new controller that finally be able to program the light.

Looks great, very cool sump design. Very similar to the one I am still finishing off.

Thanks. I am trying to keep this a "clean" as possible as far as the wires and plumbing go. They always seem to get in the way or tangled up, so I am trying to keep from happening from the get go.

I did not use the included bulkheads, in fact I drilled out the smaller 1/2" inch one to 45mm to fit a 1" bulkhead. I did this so I can make a "Herbie" return. Supposed to be the quietest return out there. I did order replacement bulk heads but it was because I wanted to ensure I had the same ones from the get go. There is a link to the Herbie return in the original post if you are not familiar with them.

The red PVC is white, I used a can of red spray paint an left anything that will be below the rim of the sump white. I have Zia Reefer to thank for this one. He found some red PVC somewhere, but is ally make a mistake someplace to I opted for white with self applied color...lol ;)

I am moving my AI Hydra off the Cardiff, my current MDT to this. I love the Hydra and all it has to offer. Now they have the Hydra 52 and I want it.....but DAYM the price tag...

I am not familiar with the Kessil, but I know they make a good product based on the reviews I have seen, I think aquarium lights are like cars, buy the one you like that has the options you want, cause in the end they all do the same thing.

Had a really good day yesterday. I was able to get the tank completed and ready for water, but when I opened the boxes from Marlo Rocks to clean my sand, it was the super fine sugar sand....I swear I ordered the coarse stuff.....

So, I did not get the tank wet.

I did however have a great visit with Zia, who stopped by to see how things were shaping up due to me texting him these pics!

So last night I was cruising the on line stores looking at sand again, and I wondered....this might look REALLY cool with black sand. I had a 125 fresh water tank a few years back with black sand id it looked great. hummmmm.....what to do.....

As good as these pictures are, they don't do this build justice! The attention to detail on the plumbing, custom DIY reactors (really freaken cool btw), sump mod, and especially the rock scape is first class! Those carbon fiber rods used to hold that scape together were amazing! Learn something new every time i visit with you. Bummer on your sand  I was really was hoping to help you finally get that tank wet.

One request! Before you get it wet, can you get a few nice top down shots of that scape, please :D That was the best view ever, yesterday! Besides your wifes amazing cooking of course! Compliments to the chef, please! That was an outstanding meal

Awesome setup so far. What are you plans for stocking? Taggin along.

Thanks. Stocking is moving all the coral and fish from my current MDT, a Cardiff 24g AIO over to this, then we will see what room there is. I would really love to have a Flame Angel fish but that might be a "not so good idea"

Progress is a little slow due to my sand being wrong. I contacted Marko Rocks and told them about wanting the coarse sand not the fine sugar sand, and even though it was my fault for not looking at the web page correctly they said if I paid for the shipping, they would send 80 lbs of coarse sand fort he cost of shipping. What am I going to say....YES! Way to Go Marko Rocks!!!

I received the sand Thursday, its perfect!! So I now I can press on. I added this to kick off the cycle:

I got this:

This is seeding the tank to kick off the biological cycle. When I see the nitrite and nitrate make there swing in the next couple of days I will add the bottle of Fritz zyme I have, after that when the Nitrite and nitrate are just about zero I will put three green cromis in the tank along with some live rock I have had seeding in my refugium to keep the cycle going.

More pics tomorrow!! B)

Here is the test results this morning. Again no real change. I would have thought that there would have been at lease a slight rise in nitrite at this point. I checked the Fritz zyme web site and they indicate that it would take several days to a week. Since I don't fee like waiting, I am going to add a piece of rock I have had in my refugium for the last year to "help out".

What are you going to do with the live rock that you got from John?

I think at least one piece will go in here, but the one I want to put in here has the three brain corals on it, so I do not want that in an ammonia bath..... :scarry:

I put two good size pieces of live rock from my fugue in this morning, I will check the parameters again tomorrow night and see where things are at.

NH3 looks a little bit lower, of course it could just be the lighting in the pic, good ole API... Can't wait for that ATO how to! Good luck with the move, hope all goes smoothly!

Safety thoughts - There are several advantages doing it this way.

Its snail proof

Its cheap

Its effective

Use a limited water supply in case of failure or stuck switch- keep from flooding and minimizes Salinity swings. i used a 3 gallon trash can from Walmart.

No converters to buy, runs on 115vac.

The switch is protected from the water by being enclosed in the box (use silicone RTV over the openings)

I used a low volume pump, 40 gph. got it for $5 on eBay.

To finish this up, I used a piece of wire to run one side of the electrical cord to the switch. The other thing that can be done is to add a female plug to the end of this so you can just plug in any 115v pump. There are lots of ways to modify this slightly for your own application.
