JBJ 28 Filtration Suggestions

As much as I try to search for ideas and advice, I can't seem to locate anything. I have a JBJ 28, I've got a JBJ 28 Gallon HQI/CF Open Back Nano Skimmer which comes in this Friday.

My filtration is basicall stock right now but I'm looking for advice for improvments, suggestions and advice on how to upgrade, slowly remove the bio media and convert to something more up to date and effective.

If anyone has advice or links to articles, pictures or anything informational on this, I would appreciate it very much!

Tank has been up and running a couple of months. My ammonia, nitrite, nitrate are <0 but I seem to always a just a bit of phosphate even after a partial water change.

Thank you for your help.

You can get an intank filter basket to help with flow through. I have a 28 also and run a bit of phosban under some floss, then the last chamber in the basket I run bio Chen zorb. I also run a jebao wp10. Another thing to help keep flow random is hydor flow deflectors.

You dont have ceramic bio in your filter? I do have a wp10... and I upgraded my two pumps as well. The media basket that came with the tank seems.. a bit small to me.

I broke the divider for sections 2&3 to make a bigger area to put filter media in better. No I don't run the ceramics no need with live rock.

I would love to see what others have done. I never thought to remove the divider. I thought about removing the media basket though and finding or building a better one.

Up to date and effective are not always the same thing. An algae turf scrubber is effective but it is not new. The reason that I am

"old school" is because of simplicity of operation. When operating systems are balanced with harmony of biology, chemistry and physics then the rules of "dynamic equilibrium" are the automatic control system. It is hard to improve on Intelligent Design.
