McCune
So my solana was previously set up for toe years and I never had a fish jump. Since restarting the tank I have lost three fish in the last two weeks. First to jump was a grade a Picasso clown from my pair. I replaced that fish with a snowflake clown who decided to jump the second day I had it. Then this morning I went to do normal maintenance on the tack and find my other grade a Picasso on the floor next to the tank. So now I an absolutely building a cover for the tank. Anyone use the BRS screen kit to build their own. Link to comment
FlowerMama
Many people seem to be using it and I've seen it in person on a 60 shallow. Work well and are not obtrusive. I currently have white crate on my 34 and my next little project will be getting the same kit and making that mesh cover. Link to comment
doppelganger
I have one for my solana. It's fairly simple to make since it's a perfect 20x20 cube. I just have it resting on the top so it does sort of take away from the rimless look but it still looks fairly decent as the thickness almost perfectly matches the silicone thickness of on the seams. McCune
I think I'm going to have to order extra corner pieces to make a cut out around my tunze skimmer Link to comment
doppelganger
how high is your tunze? Mine (with stevieT cup) still fits under the top, plus I run it like 3/4" over the max water level which means it could go lower. Unless you're running the water level super high. I only run the water in the back chambers up to where the 1st overflows to the 2nd. Link to comment
Alexraptor
Out of curiosity, do you people who have had jumpers use any kind moonlight or nightlight or? or is it "pitch black" at night? Maybe ive just been lucky, but i have a stronge blue Led lamp in the cieling of my Aquarium room, so that all the entire room and the tanks are lit up in a very very faint light. Not so much that it keeps the fish awake at night, but enough so that they can still see and make out their surroundings. And since I set that up I haven't had any problem with jumpers. Gilligan
For me, it was my freshwater tank. I have a Koralia 240 near the top of the tank near the return, which was pointed up to agitate the surface. Anyhow when I started feed the tank mysis shrimp instead of flakes, the fish became nicer looking and more active. The started to spend a lot of time in the stream of the 240. You should see the little buggers going full-tilt into that flow lol. They looked like the were vibrating they were swimming so hard. The problem is when he left the stream, swimming full speed he inadvertently jumped out of the tank. The female did it the next day when I was bringing in a replacement. Fortunately I was there to scoop her up. Link to comment
