Bayer Dosages and Alternatives

While I haven't personally used Bayer as a dip for a while now, I want to know what dosage of Bayer you use for your dips and how long you dip? I have seen a huge range from as little as 1.25ml/8oz, the usual of 10ml/8oz of water, and all the way up to 40ml/8oz. of water and am curious what the majority of people are using?

If you don't use Bayer, what dip are you using as an alternative?

If you use different dosages and times for different types of coral or multiple dips - please specifiy.

jservedio - I cant speak for everyone but this is the dosage I use for SPS / LPS (never done softies):

I did modify the dose though

Part 1

1) Plastic Paint container:1/2 liter of tank water (3cups)

2) 10ml of Bayer advance complete insect killer (Leave Corals in container for 5 minutes only)( I use the blue bottle without the germicide).

*Important Note: I blast the corals with baster keep the dip suspended.*

Part 2

1) Clean Tank water in (second) Plastic Paint container: 1/2 liter of tank water (3cups)

2) Rinse / swirl for 10 minutes

Don't leave the corals in the dip for longer then 5 or 6 minute tops - I have used this method for a good 2 years with out any ill effects on corals.

Here is a YouTube Video on the stuff I use:

Hope this Helps !

I was doing what evo said above but there was another thread about this where Lawnman mentioned that the Bayer is nasty stuff for humans as well as the bugs. Sounds like you don't want to be touching the chemical itself or the treated water and yo definitely want to rinse the frags really well or you will end up killing the bacteria and maybe other things in your tank. Lawn said he uses Coral RX at 4x the specified dose.

FWIW I did a Bayer dip on some frags a couple of weeks ago and they were fine. I moved them to another tank and did the 4x Rx dip and they were also fine. I didn't see anything come off any of the frags either time.

I needed to get an Amazon order up by a few bucks to get the free shipping and got some Revive. I'm going off to research that now (should probably have done that before purchasing!).

Yeah most of the people I know who use it do it on the lighter end (10-15ml/24oz of water) - however a good portion of them swear by 10ml/cup. I was just trying to get an idea of what people were using since the dosage people use seems to be all over the place. I've also seen people go up to 20ml in just 4oz of water and claim they never lost anything.

I wanted to find out what the community's consensus was on the dosage and dip time instead of a lesson on dipping and what people's arguments against it were. There are tons of arguments against it and you can find them anywhere - I haven't found a thread on here where more than 1 or 2 people gave a dose/time.

GTi - is correct / this stuff is pesticide and should not be touch !!! It is extremely potent !! I should mention that I use a small old cup and pour the bayer into it then take a pet syringe and draw the 10ml into the dip container. I also use 12" Stainless Steel Aquarium Feeding Tongs which help to put the corals into the dip and clean water container for the rinsing.
