Dwarf Seahorse tank options

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend wants to start a dwarf seahorse tank and we have two options in mind for it.

1) IM Nuvo 4 gallon

2) IM Nuvo 16 gallon

Will either of those tanks be good enough to have dwarf seahorses in?

Any other options? She doesn't want a big tank, so anything 25gallons and under is good if you have other suggestions.

Thanks

16 gallons is way too big for dwarf seahorses. You really want to stay under 5 gallons. They are SUPER tiny and you have to get a really high concentration of food in the water for them, so that's difficult in a bigger tank.

Other Options

JBJ Picotope (3 gallons)

Fluvel Spec (2 or 5 gallon)

Evolve (4 gallon)

Micro-Reefs Tank

I have an Evolve 4 I am switching out and so would be free. Didn't think it would be big enough for dwarf Seahorses but if it is, I may have found its next function. Will have to do somw reading up on them.

An Evolve 4 is plenty big for dwarf seahorses. I wouldn't go much bigger honestly.

Do you happen to know which is easier to care for, dwarf seahorses or regular ones?

Honestly they both have different challenges. They're probably equally difficult in different ways. Regular size seahorses need an absolute minimum tank size of 30 gallons though.

The challenge with dwarfs is hatching and enriching baby brine shrimp every day.

What do you mean by enriching baby brine shrimp daily? i dont know what that is.

Want to thank you for your help so far. My girlfriend is leaning towards the IM Nuvo 4 gallon and will do dawrf seahorses. Your input has been greatly appreciated. :)

Basically feeding them to gut load with more nutrition than they normally have.

For the first 24 hours after hatching, they still have their yolk sac (and actually don't eat yet), after that their nutritional value drops. So you feed them (gut load) with something better. Some people just feed the newly hatch brine shrimp, but they don't all hatch at once, and depending how much you are able to monitor their hatching, you could end up with older ones in the mix. And some folks feel the newly hatched baby brine shrimp don't have the best nutritional profile anyway.

You're very welcome. Just please make sure to do all your research on dwarf seahorse care before you buy them because there are a lot of considerations and you need to make sure you'll be able to hatch the baby brine shrimp to feed them.

They are a full time job for sure! I've taken my tank down but still have everything. Enrichment, sponge, and more. If you need anything pm me. Maybe we can make a trade.
