Ecotech Radion xr30w g3 or ....?

So I really like the Ecotech Radion XR30W light and my girl likes it as well...she likes the storm feature, sunrise/senset and the ability to adjust the colors from 5k-20k, I believe? But it's tough for me to convince her to spending that much on a light...I recently found the Nano Box Mono/Duo light and it seems like that has the same exact features? Can someone clarify that? Do you think that light would work for me? Or any other recommendations with those features?

Currently have Kessil A150W over a IM Nuvo 30 tank

If you want a DIY kit reefledlights.com makes a storm nano kit that does basically the same thing as the radion for about half the price. I ordered one for my biocube and I have 2 radions and wish I would of known about reef led lights before.

I'm sure you'd be happy with a Nanobox rig but price wise its the same as a xr30w if you're buying the duo.

You could always DIY and buy the Storm Controller it's only $60.

A little confuse...How is it the same pricewise? I saw on the Nanobox site that the duo is $450 plus $50 for the storm controller so that's only $500 vs $650 for the Radion? Also, not pricing in moutning yet as well

The Duo is 450.00 with the storm controller, I just bought one. The storm upgrade selection is for other lights so you can add it. My Duo came with the Storm for 450.00. If you want the Storm-X upgrade, that is 50.00 extra, but you get the bas controller for 450.00(which I thing the difference is negligable).

That being said, I have always been a Ecotech guy, only ran Radions. I love my Duo, but I also love Radions. Bottom line the only difference in my mind is the Radion interface is much easier to navigate and user friendly. Not that the Storm controller is HARD, its just much more primitive. Also, the Radion already allows you to control like 6 channels. The Duo comes with only 2 I believe, and 30.00-50.00(forget exactly) extra for each additional channel. So if you want a lot of control the price adds up quickly. So by the time you add the same amount of control and channels as a Radion you are spending as much if not more. The Duo is worth it though. another possible advantage ultimately may be the warranty...doubt it though, Dave is a killer guy and stands behind his product.

Or buy the radion pucks and diy the rest like some have started to do. The rapidled aurora puck is the same as a radion and for 300 you get a 2 puck kit. Add the controller an you're good to go.

Well, no. You still have to wire it all up. It just comes with all the necessary parts to allow you to do so.

Do you have to use those drivers? They are huge. I didn't know this existed till I saw it in this thread. I would like to build one that isn't going to be bulky or remind me of fluorescent ballasts.

Sorry, guess I should have said solderless. Some assembly is still required.

They sell the kit with the big mean well drivers or the LDD drivers. Your choice.

If I wanted to run a Storm X, would I need LDD or PWM? Sorry I know nuffin about this.

Not quite the same fewer channels but the idea is the same.

PWM is a form of dimming that the LDD use. The Storm and Storm X use PWM dimming. I mena this in the simplest of terms of course PWM is a little more complex than that but it's all that really needs to be know fo the task at hand.
