I got this frag free in hopes of saving it, does it look like it an be saved? Any suggestions on how to help it recover? I have placed it in a shady area and am going to try to feed it tonight with some cyclopeeze...unfortunately my hermits have been trying to clean it so not sure if I should move it...any suggestions would be appreciated!

Put it in low flow med-low light. The hermits could be curious about algea stuffs. Can't see a pic but that might be because I'm on my phone.

Oh there it is . Looks like RTN. Watch it closly and frag ahead of the infection if it doesn't slow shortly.

Thanks Pinner, I have moved it to some shade in my tank and hope it helps! I had to go back and add a pic that I forgot to add. It should be on there now. The hermits will not eat the healthy flesh that isleft?

The guy at the LFS stated that it was loosing tissue due to being transferred from MH to LED's but I'm not so sure.....Hmmm i was wondering about RTN...I may begin to frag it tomorrow and see if that helps....would it regrow over the old skeleton?

Yes they will regrow on old skeleton. Watch it closely for at least 36hrs before attempting to frag. It sounds like there could be shipping stress issues.

You'll see progressive decay if RTN is there. Sections of them will die if the flesh is damaged during shipping and that recovers pretty quick. RTN sweeps across the colony like wild fire.

Tagging along here, I have what I think is the same coral, with a similar issue.

When I first saw it at the LFS a few weeks back the guy said it didn't look to good.

I bought it a week later because there was not much left to pick from in the frag tank that I did not already have!

Thanks guys! I did break of a small portion of the white skeleton an hour ago and tried to squirt it with cyclopeeze so I'm hoping it will recover!! Gilligan how does yours look? What have you tried so far?

Nothing, I am going to do a water change right now.

It's in a impromptu rubbermaid frag tank right now while I am doing repairs and upgrades to my main tank.

I will see if I can get a picture up here of it, just have to make a image hosting account somewhere first.

OK so here are some pictures. It actually looks a little better now, just something about it seemed to change today, for better or worse I don't know.

I took two pictures one with the Marineland "Reef Capable" light and one with a little actinic pendant.

You can see the sort of translucent tissue on the right and left hand sides.

I resized these to 1000 pixels wide, I apologize if they turn up a little small.

It does look good =) I hope it continues to do well. I'm not sure if mine is going to make it I have noticed more tissue recession so I am afraid that I will be loosing the entire piece.....I guess I will have to wait and we will see..Does it look any better to you? I tried to squirt it with cyclopeeze last night in a container by itself but didn't notice any difference....

Mine ended up with RTN too (though I think it was caused by the pink band disease based on some symptoms) and, while there is a little flesh left, I think it's gone too. :(

Looks like the upper patches were pretty close to gone in your first pic. As long as the recession stops your ok. If it continues try to nip off the front edge before the recession gets there.

Look closely at the edge of the tissue damage. If the edge is tapered down as it transitions to the skeleton or the leading edge is brown or slimey, recession is still happening. A healthy edge will be uniform in color and somewhat rounded.

I am hoping that the recession has stopped right now! Today I have noticed that the tissue seems to be staying in place and is looking more purplish than it did prior.....still keeping fingers crossed!! I will post another photo tomorrow with update. Thanks for all of you guy's help!
