I had a 12g NC and kept one Ocellaris clownfish and some small gobies. Maroon clowns get so big and territorial. I think you'll have issues with it as it becomes an adult. Is it a baby now? If you are dead set on adding another fish, make it a rock dweller and not an open water swimmer because the maroon will harass it otherwise.

Just for future reference. In the beginning do your research before going to the LFS. Decide what you are looking for and then purchase it. Try not to go to the store without knowing what you want first. I would go to live aquaria and look through their site to help you decide or narrow it down to a few options. It helps avoid impulse buys, or asking the LFS for advice. Also never take the LFS' word for it, they are usually shooting from the hip, and don't know. They just want to make a sale and move on to the next customer.

You could probably get something a little more aggressive that can hold its own against the maroon clown, like maybe a six line or some type of dotty back. Other than that I would go with Gena's advice to get a rock dweller like a hawkfish perhaps. I have never had a maroon clown so I am not sure exactly how aggressive they are. You may also be better off just bringing it back for store credit and getting an ocellaris, or percula clown.

I was thinking about that!! In going to see if I can bring him back and get another type of clown. If not I was thinking of a rasp as well
