So I want to start my own thread about my build but I'm trying to figure out how you guys are taking these pics??? Everytime I take pictures, it comes out all blue. BTW, I only have my iPhone 5s to take pics with...is there a software you guys use that I could download and re-edit these pics when I transfer to my computer?

I assume you've got LED lighting. Even DSLRs have trouble with the primary blue lighting. You can turn down your blue channel, or there may be a third party app that can help take better pictures with white balance.

Does the iPhone allow you to set a custom white balance? If so, you should be able to make it adjust better. If not… well, editing time!

not with the normal software, and frankly I doubt it can do it at all.

Todays lesson: the camera in your phone is actually not that good (gasp!)

Dont get me wrong, I love my iphone, but its a surriously crappy camera.

For my Samsung phone I downloaded an app called FV-5. I don't know if they make it for Iphone. You will still need to turn the blues down.

You can get a used point and shoot with some manual controls. KEH has a used Canon A720 IS for $49. I own this model of camera; it's a capable tank shooter (with custom white balance control and 6 times optical zoom). A cheap tripod will also help.

Your iPhone might be as good at taking typical photos, but you could use something like this just for tank shots.

"Real" cameras usualy have faster lenses (Lower f-stop/ larger aperture), even if they are optional.

They also usually have higher ISO, well over 10,000 these days. It's not useable all the way up, by it's usually much less grainy then cell phone pictures.

These two features make imaging in the dark, close ups and pics of moving targets (fish) much easier.

It is also useful to turn the auto focus off for taking pictures of moving targets like fish.

I have seen a few respectable pictures taken with phones, however this is more to do with luck (Ideal conditions) then the operator.

All Iphone pics.

very good for phone pics, the first is good, the second two are out of focus or have motion blur. Good for a phone, still nothing compared to even a decent point and shoot.

I agree, it just proves the point.

Those are clearly cell phone pictures. People are just being polite.

The compression on those pictures is awful.

I better watch what i say before I am forced to take a picture myself!

I think the guy is just looking to take decent pics. I don't think he is trying to win a major award with his photos. I am the same way I just want to take a decent picture to show my friends corals I have.

This is correct. I just want to take pics and post it up where you can make out the stuff in my tank...definitely not trying to get all perfect pics...

BTW, @Lawnman...care to share how you get those pics with your iphone???

My comment was just an opinion... I took this pic yesterday with my phone. Looks blurry and the colors are washed out.

As far as trying to take pics without getting all blue. I would think you would have to change your light aka environment or maybe try to correct it using photoshop as I don't think there is a way to white balance on the phone and blue led's can really mess camera's up.

I could be wrong but I think lawman uses a MH and not led's? That would probably effect his picture taking ability greatly.

Maybe just tape something over to cover the blue led's? Be kind of a pain though.
