If I have a 20 gallon long with an AC 110 with a Tunze 9002 and HOB refugium, will 2 clown fish and a Yellow Watchman Goby + Pistol Shrimp be too much? (Waterchange every 2 weeks)

You're golden. Now my tank on the otherhand is over-overstocked. It's a 30G and I have two Occy clowns, 1 Sixline Wrasse, 1 Yellowtail damsel, 1 Blue Neon Goby, 1 Spotted Mandarin, 1 YCG, 1 Bicolor Blenny and 1 Yasha (in the sump). So there you go.

Whenever I see the question am I overstocked I think oh no now what do they have crammed in their little glass box. That is a great stock list for that size tank.

You could even get away with one more fish. If I were you, I'd pick something like a Blue//Green Chromis or a Blue or Yellowtail Damsel. All three are blue in color and would really offset the yellow and orange in the Goby and Clowns!

Don't do this. I know of no single person who put a damsel in ANY size tank and didn't regret it eventually. A buddy of mine has a 180 tall and had to break it apart to get his damsel out and separate him into his own little 30g tank because this little sucker beat up on everybody, have heard it from other people with 100g+ tanks as well. Damsels are pretty but really damn mean, and will harass the other fish, regardless of their size, especially in a small tank, avoid damsels at all costs.

I had no idea... My buddy has kept a Yellowtail Damsel with his Onyx Clown for at least 6 months months and hasn't had any problems. Must be lucky! I prefer Chromis anyway. Sorry for the misinformation! Are Damsels less agressuve when grouped with the same species?

Damsels aggressive by nature. I am trying to put 2 in a 38 gallon I put them both in at the same time hoping for the best. I kept one in the sump until I got ready to put up another tank, last night was their first night together. So far the both claimed about 1/3 of the tank. Clown fish are the least aggressive of the damsel family. I think that this followed by the talbot, springer and the yellow tail.

Every fish has their own personality that might be why your friend got away with it.

Damsels are evil, the easiest way to get them out of your system is add a lion fish, a fu Manchu is reef safe and 1 managed to take care if 4 yellow tails in under a week in a friends 120.

IMO if your satisfied with your current stock then their is no need to add anything else but you do have room for 1 more later down the road.

A lionfish ? this is a beginners forum, and to suggest a fish to "take care" of others is plain wrong.

If there should be such need to remove one, I'd suggest a fish trap, or net him out, yes it'll take time, but at least you can trade him back at a shop or whatever, even if it means stripping the tank to get him.

Your stock is fine, and yes i'd agree there may be room for another in time, as above.

The Onyx clown is in the damsel family as well. The reason it has worked for your buddy is because the Clown is every bit as tough as the yellow tail. If you were to put something like a fairy wrasse in with the yellow tail it probably wouldn't last a week. As stated above, avoid the vast majority of damsels at all costs.

Would you believe that a damsel gets long really well with a peacock mantis shrimp? There are acceptable tanks for damsels to live in. Mind you, I wouldn't try to put another fish in with him, and he knows to keep his distance from the business end of the mantis shrimp...

I also have an azure damsel that coexists very very nicely with a clown fish and a yellow clown goby. It is possible to have a well mannered damsel, it's just unlikely.

I have a starcki damsel and it is one of the most peaceful fish in my tank. She is very large, full grown, maybe 4 inches. Not all damsels are equal as there are peaceful types too... I mean clownfish and chromis are damsels. :P

Don't give every type of damsel a bad name :(

I would really love to fit a flame angel in but I'm afraid either the tank is too small or it's gonna nip the corals.
