Single fish that can be hand fed

Can I get some suggestions on a single fish that live alone in a 40 breeder? I was thinking a snow flak eel or a dwarf fuzzy lion. The tank has a 40B sump with an asm G1 skimmer.

I would like it to be a fish that kind of has some personality, will recognize me and maybe I can train to be hand fed. Thanks for any suggestions.

Also, there is a maxima in the tank I would like to survive. I know it may or may not but I put it in there and it is attached to the rock work so at this point I dont think its gonna come off.

I know its a little small to be alone in a 40 but I had an amazing neon goby that would accept food from my hand and actually swim around my hand when cleaning my tank. It even let me pet it.

Peacock mantis shrimp. Okay it's not a fish and not clam safe.... but it will certainly recognize you, has a world class personality, and you could hand feed it if you are brave.

Someone needs to post a video hand feeding their mantis...they may lose a finger but will forever gain credit on this forum.

Snowflake eel will try and take a bite of you. Those things are vicious bitches. They escape so easy, carpet jerky.

Clownfish obviously.

My blue tang comes up to the feeding fingers, but just still cautious.

Check out islandoftiki's thread. He hand feeds his peacock in one video and pets her in another. :) His videos are very entertaining, the whole thread is well worth a read.

Both of my clowns will eat from my hand, and the older one will play around my fingers and will "lay down" in my palm if I leave it still for a bit. He will also attack the shit out of me if I get close to whatever he is hosting in.

Puffer fish. I've kept two in a 40breeder for over two years no problem. They were both medium sized uffers tgst would eat right out of your hand and had personality that would rival the most obedient dogs. My stars and stripes puffer would spout a stream of water into the air to let you know he was hungry and my dogface puffer would curl up in a chunk of live rock like was chilling on the couch next to me and the old lady. Best fish I've ever owned.

Be careful it might bite the hand that feeds it

that was my lawnmower blenny. I haven't had much luck with them living more than a year so I gave up on them I have even had my pistol shrimp eat from my fingers. My blue devil ate from my fingers until I caught him one to many times to put him in a larger tank.

Puffers, Triggers, Lions, and Eels could all live singly and be trained to eat out of your hand. Many puffers and triggers also don't mind getting pet. I wouldn't try it with the lion or eel though

Probably the fish with the most personality are going to be your puffers or dwarf lions. They're adorable little bastards.

If you want a fowlr, then either will do. If you want a reef, then a dwarf lion is the way to go.

yeah, again too small for a 40g. But I hand feed my yellow clown goby, and he doesn't mind swimming into my hand or perching on it. Pretty neat.

I stopped doing it because my clown attacks my hand relentlessly whenever it is in the tank

Are puffers bad in reefs? I was thinking about a tobi puffer maybe. My only concern with the lion is I'm worried about when my wife has to take care of the tank

Toby puffers are cool little guys. They'll nom on snails, crabs, and shrimp, but typically leave everything else alone, save for a nibble every once in a while.

Yeah puffers are are bad news bears for any reeftank but if your looking for a single fish in a fish only tank then that's the I've your going to want. You add a few zoas and showrooms of course since they don't mind a little dirty water. You can kiss any cuc goodbye though as he'll munch on hermits, snails and anything else he can find crawling around the rocker and sandbed.

I wouldn't take it that far. Some of the larger, more aggressive puffers, yes, but the toby puffers are not the same.

A 40B would be a PERFECT tank for a Giant frogfish (A. commersoni). They are big brutes (grow to 12") and would probably accept food by hand after being trained. You could also feed them whole silversides, unwanted damsels, unruly neighborhood children- whatever you wanted.

Anglers are really awesome fish as well. Nothing cooler than watching them take live prey. This thread is making me want to turn my empty 75g into a predator tank.

The BSJF have a ton of personality. Plus they are always busy digging their burrows, moving rocks and spitting sand. Much more than just "swimming"!!

Reading a lot of horror stories about the bsjf tho on my Google adventure. Its a nice fish but I dont want to drop 100 bucks just to belly up in a couple months
