Kijho
I believe a Asterina Starfish? Unsure on this... (Middle of pic, the little "web") This honestly looks like sh*t all over the bottom of my tank?? I have 3 Trochus snails in there and that is all. This was a hitchhiker snail.. less than 1cm in size. Pops out occasionally.. Any good? Any bad? Any that needs to be executed immediately? If that's waste at the bottom of the tank, any ways of cleaning that up? I was planning on adding a Goby fish this weekend... Thanks in advance! Link to comment
keydiver
Pic one is indeed an asterina, be careful as some species will munch on zoas but most are pretty harmless. Pic two looks to be possiblya bryozoan of some sort, again, it's harmless but those guys generally don't last long in reef systems Pic three is snail poop. Nothing to worry about, as you add to your clean up crew/bioload it will get consumed. Pic four is a keyhole limpet, very good at taking care of diatoms/green hair algae Link to comment
Kijho
Thank you - perfect!! What CUC member should I add to munch that snail poo ? I guess this means my snails are getting plenty to eat, haha. (I was a bit worried about that!) . Link to comment
hypostatic
That asterina looks a bit different than the ones you normally see posted... Definitely keep an eye on it just in case. There's like hundreds of different undescribed species though, so who knows, maybe it eats snail poop lol Link to comment

(I was a bit worried about that!) . Your best bet will be the worms that likely already came in on your rock, copepods, and amphipods. They're all things that will have survived the trip, so your best bet is to wait it out and let their populations grow according to how much 'food' your snails and future livestock will provide. Detritivores are pretty amazing for tanks. On the other hand, keep in mind that until their population grows enough, that poop will keep rotting and won't be used up for anything. :x Link to comment
