new-b-reefer
Picture update, I have some leftover star polyps from last time that are finding any light they can from the sides and under the rock. Wierd, had this rock in my display for almost a year, had no idea those were on the underside all this time. Got more re opening everyday And a pic with 2 starfish Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
Update, rotated the rock to help the leftover star polyps access some more light while still allowing the palys to have light. Also added a green mushroom that was floating around my 50 gallon. Hopefully it will attach to the rock soon. It's still a little pissed off lol 1 Quote Link to comment
brandon429
that is a legit jar reef man, it really is. your benthic growths and details are that of a normal reef really that's a good job. not taken over by algae, corals able to sustain, its the goal of the setup being attained. Quote Link to comment

Thanks I have another feather duster in the rock too, it's a bit shy but it's awesome, it's yellow and red striped. Everytime I try to get a pick it recedes back into its tube. One of these days I will get it lol. Hoping to possibly add a small frag of some brighter gsp from my 50 gallon. I would add a small Kenya tree in there but without flow I don't think it will do so well. They are spreading all over one side of my 50 gallon lol. Could mean another experiment in the works lol Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
Small pic update, going strong, got a shot of that red and yellow feather duster starting to come out And the mushroom seems to be settling in too Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
Picture update, added a frag of palys and some macro, a type of caulerpa I believe. Got some micro snails that came with the macro and I am seeing some pods here and there. Got a pic of one right on the tip of the macro, a type of pod still see plenty of min stars cruising around too. The new palys are adjusting so opening very slowly. 1 Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
New palys starting to open more and more and can see one of the micro snails on the back glass 1 Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
New palys are opening up more and more. Mushroom is settled in, all is coming together. The caulerpa I am liking more and more in there. Having some green vegetation is nice and of course the benefits of water quality and O2 production Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
More pic from today. New palys open! And some other random pics. Got a decent one of one of the micro snails 2 Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
No!!!!! The reef jar has crashed. I guess the heat wave we had recently got the beat of it, I noticed alot of brown algae and some dead bristle worms. I opened it up and pulled the rock, and it seems it was only starting to smell a bit, so I promptly took the rock with the corals and put it in a 2.5 gallon I had running to hold my Kenya tree frags that I was giving away to friends and selling since that tank is doing just fine. Hopefully those Coral on the reef jar rock will bounce back, I think I caught it in time. So sad though. I guess I will wait for summer to pass before I try again Or move it downstairs where it's cooler. Sad saturday. 1 Quote Link to comment

new-b-reefer
Only the second time i have seen this in all my aquarium time Never in a jar lol. Anyone no if they are planktonic or photosynthetic feeders at this stage? Or do they graze already as the hermits do? Quote Link to comment
brandon429
amazing, and I don't know Quote Link to comment
Alexraptor
Pretty awesome! Glad to see this can actually be done, was planning a system exactly like this for my mother(under my tender care of course!) I believe hermit larvae are planktonic feeders, congrats that you got to see that, I experienced a hermit hatching event myself last year. Quote Link to comment
new-b-reefer
Yeah, pretty cool, my co-workers were visiting my desk all day to see. Most of them have never seen anything like it before which was cool. We have a new guy who is also a reef enthusiast and even he was camped out in fro t of it for a while. Unfortunately for. What I have read the chances of survival for these little guys is slim but day 2 and they are still going. 3 Quote Link to comment
