Barnacle Blenny Questions

My pair of juvi kooky o clowns are starting to grow, one is now becoming the female and will someday have to be moved out of my IM Nuvo 8 to my 15 gallon column so I'm not looking for new livestock. I have heard that these blenny's do not get very big, are very entertaining & have some nice color. They will be my only livestock in this small tank minus some peppermint & sexy shrimp. I have a couple of questions:

1) do they like to be kept in groups, pairs or by themselves? Again its just a 8 g so i don't want to over stock!

2) i have a deep sand bed and lots of live rock w/holes, caves and such, is this enough for them to make a home if i do get 2 or 3 of them?

3) I'm assuming hey are peaceful with shrimp & and are reef safe or do i need to be concerned?

Thanks in advance!

1) They can be kept as singles.. pairs or groups!! They are friendly to each other.'

2) I would add a small barnacle to give them something natural and make them feel at home. They will each pick a hole. Plus you can add the barnacle out in front so you can see them all the time.

3) safe!

Thanks for the answers, so now for the dumb questions:

1) how is a barnacle different from live rock.

2) how many can i keep happy in a 8 gallon tank?

A rock will work if you don't want a barnacle but I guess I was thinking you could control where they hide (not in the back) and have them all clustered next to each other.

I would start off with 3 because you can always add more.

If I were to do it. I would use exactly 1 barnacle hole (maybe 1 extra) per blenny and get small barnacles. You could probably fit it into a golfball size spot :) I know reefcleaners barnacles are glued together so you can just pull them apart and reassemble (request small holes suitable for barnacle blennys).

That's just an idea though. They will make great little inhabitants either way.

Barnacle Blennies hide in a small hole, such as an empty barnacle shell. They wait for food to float by. When the food is close, they dart out to grab it and then go back to hide in the hole. They are very small fish that need very little swimming room and small territories. Thus, they are good for pico tanks such as yours. You just need to supply each fish with a suitable hiding hole.

I have two in my 75 gal and they live one inch from one another in bolt holes in my live rock . I love these fish the only time they come out is when it's feeding time . Mine have never attacked shrimp or gone after coral . To me there an ideal reef fish :)
