Jaculus
OK,, I posted a VERY long (probably too winded to have anyone read it and respond) post (http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/343738-125-gal-tank-setup-for-sump-refugium-ideas/) about my 125 gal refugium/sump. Summary is I have one 75 gal DT (Reef) and will be getting another 46 Gal FOWLR tank to put near it. I am running the sump to the basement right beneath the tanks. Anyhow, I got a 125 gal tank for a steal. I could not pass it up. I know it may be overkill but I honestly can't think of any reason to not use a 125 gal for a refugium/sump when I found it for this cheap and I do have the room for it. Here's my question, would there be any disadvantage to running the baffles in the sump 2 inches apart instead of the typical 1 inch? My reasoning is simple,,, I have the room why not use it? Having 2 inches of space allows easier installation and cleaning. I am running two sets of baffles also, one on each side of the refugium area. I hate micro bubbles. Link to comment
defective_weeble
In my experience, no, there's no disadvantage to running more than 1 inch. I think that the 1 inch idea is more of a minimum spacing. Since sump space is generally at a premium, people would try to go smaller and the surface tension of the water wouldn't allow for proper flow. Link to comment
Jaculus
Thanks I already built it but have not finished the plumbing to use it lol. Ib went with about 1 1/2" spacing. Just made it easy tov use a single 2x4 piece to provide spacing Link to comment
