Just bought a clam, feeling guilty

Purchased a beautiful clam at the CT Frag farmers market and starting to feel a little guilty. I've always loved them but told myself no since I figured it would be impossible in my Fluval edge...This was from Pacific East Aquaculture, they had a gorgeous disply there and I couldnt resist.

Here's what I have, any clam experts out there think I have any chance at all of keeping him successfully?

Tank: 1yr old 6G fluval edge (more like 7g with a custom sump on back.)
lighting: 6cree RB & 3cree NW 2" above waterline. (plus a couple UV's and an OCW)
schedule: max power is 30% for blue and white for 5hrs (9hrs total with 2hr ramp up/down)
temp: 77
Alk: 8-9
Cal: 400 - 440
Salinity: 1.024

BTW, I asked a ton of questions but forgot the most obvious, what kind is it? Can anyone help identify?

I dont have a clam yet but I plan on getting one for my 30g. Ive been reading alot about clams and if I had to guess your set up should support that clam for awhile until he out grows it. You might have to slowly turn up your leds over a few months if I had to guess. Clams also like slightly dirtier water from what ive been reading. Also make sure non of your stinging corals can reach the clams mantle.

Also forgot to mention you might want to put a frag plug or a small piece of rubble under him so he can attach his foot to something and it also makes it easier for you to move him around later if you need to

Yup, you can't see it but there is a rock just below him under the sand. Did the whole hour long drip acclimate and burp also.

pretty sure thats a squamosa. The scutes are more tightly spaced on a Maxima.

so you need to consider carefully. That clam grows to 12"-16" when fully grown. Its in such a small tank I would caution you that maintaining parameters may be very difficult. At the very least, keep a close eye on your Ca and alk to see how it uses them.

Should be fine with adequate light and dosing. Just make sure he doesn't outgrow the tiny opening on the fluval edge lol!

This might be a moot point. He STILL hasn't attached his foot and its been 4 days now. I moved him to the top of my rockwork last night but still no joy. He opens up like a third of the way, I can see the siphons somewhat. His mantle has yet to stick out beyond his shell. He's still responsive though.

Just curious as to why you would add a giant clam to a seven gallon tank. They can triple in size in under a year. Also have you tried running carbon or chemipure. Maybe add a few ml's of phytoplex to the tank a day before your wc to see if that will bring him out.

PEA did not have any squamosas at the swap, only Maximas.

Wow a post from metrokat. Im moving up in here!

Just thought I'd post an update. He STILL hasnt planted his foot onto anything....after a month now I've given up trying to place him on things as it only aggravates him.

Heres a PIC, does this look like gaping? Sometimes his intake is open even farther.

I've re-arranged my whole tank routine around this guy, Instead of 20% change a week I didnt do one for almost a month! Im going to slow it to a smaller change every couple of weeks. Been dosing phytogreen in there as well every few days, increased my lighting. Dialed back my skimmer so it collects very little. My nitrates still are ZERO...no matter what I seem to do.

I guess if its alive I should be happy.

Try tilting him up to the light he looks a little closed up maybe cradle him in between some small. Rocks not to tight though
