Took some new pictures as the blues were coming on....sorry they are a little over saturated I can't get my point and shoot camera to take pictures very well and capture the colors. Its either blah or over saturated, so you get over saturated.

So for the record clownfish are f'ing hard to get a good picture.

This is the main "coral alley" in my tank...

Rainbow stylo (I think?). This thing has tripled in size since I got it..

This is that Echinata I picked up a while back. Its coloring up nicely and readily eats now.

I got this Chalice from Coral Gardens Aquaculture, it started out mostly green but has colored up and now has a significant amount of pink. Pretty much all those raised bumps and the feeding tentacles are pink.

and finally, the rainbow bubble tip which has colored up amazingly, this is probably my second favorite animal in the whole thank.

Picked up these this weekend, a gift from my wife for our anniversary. The store said they were Space Monsters not sure if that's true but they were nice. They are slightly more pink and purple then this picture shows.

Picked up this chalice, unfortunately I think I already had this one. Still its nice and I can't get a good picture of it.

and this is the forced education, I am hoping they will learn how to host the BTA they insist on sleeping directly above like jerks....

....except I may have bricked my Kindle trying to loop the YouTube video.

That's all for now, next Saturday (1/10/15) is Coral Fest and I am hoping to get some new pieces assuming I don't have to work.

So i got some new test kits for Christmas and decided to run a battery of tests since I noticed some of my chalices and a rainbow monti were browning on me.

Results

pH - 8.0 (lights had only been on for like 2 hours so makes sense)

Nitrates - <10

Ca - 480

Alk - 9.3

Mg - 1500

Po4 - 0 (I've got some GHA so I know this is a lie)

Other than the nitrates nothing seems terribly off. Since I use SeaChem Reef salt (switching to RS Coral Pro) my Alk reading is probably wrong because of the Borate in the salt. I may dose some baking soda but I'm going to wait and see how the new salt impacts things, it is suppose to mix at 12 Alk and I change out 10% a week.

Switching back to my coral browning, I had turned my LEDs up and my whites (BXRA NW) may have been close to 50% while my RB may have been only 65%. I keep a list tracking my channels and I swtiched up the white and RB which I think resulted in my whites being higher then my blues which caused my corals to brown. I've turned the whites down and adjusted the RB some so we shall see what happens. Its odd though because the color didn't look bad to my eyes so I'm not actually sure if I had the channels goofed on my spread sheet but had the controller right or not.

My stupid clownfish still aren't hosting the BTA and I am annoyed. I've been trying to educate them using you tube but some far no luck. Anyone have some ideas? I'm not sticking them in a bucket and draining the water...

Anyway, next week is Coral Fest here in Dallas so I'm hoping to get some nice new corals. If I end up working I think I will order a CB Chalice Pack and something nice from CGA.

Awesome tank! Those space monsters look more like pink zippers.

Thank you!

I'm not sure on either to be honest. Mine don't have the green skirts like Space Monsters nor do they have the blue skirts like Pink Zippers. Both are great so I'll wait and see I guess..

Here are pink zippers. Mine had more pink skirts in some polyps as well.

They can also have long or short skirts.

Nah, your meat locker is still awesome you just need to post some more pics!

Just relax on the clowns hosting the BTA. You will just come home one day and 1 of them will be in it. Then the one in the nem won't share it with the other clown. Then you will be buying more :).

Thanks I cleaned the tank for the first time in 2 weeks today  sucked out a ton of detrius and changed 10 gallons of water. Got the tank all clean and kicked it back on amd here came more detrius  I will get some pictures up this weekend.

So they are freshwater fish but can live in salt and eat algae?

Technically they are now saltwater fish... :D

They have the ability to go between fresh and salt they just aren't "in the ocean" where normal marine fish come from. Ben was saying he'd see them in the Gulf (or maybe the Atlantic) before.

There are actually a surprising number of threads going back a few years where people added Mollies as a CUC or just for kicks and giggles.

I am hoping they take out the small GHA and byropsis I have. If not I'll just return them or regift them to someone. I didn't want to get a tang or rabbit fish because catching them is a PITB. I've been told Lawnmowers get terratorial as they age. So I figured I would start with these. Oh also with tomorrow's water change I am going to start running GFO. I've never used it for fear of stunting my coral's growth by stripping the water of all the nutrients.
