D Z
I've never seen any direct proof of blackworms causing anything. It's actually the opposite. Some of the most successful reef tanks feed blackworms as a staple. One great example is Paul B. The man has fish that are 20+ years old. His main diet? Blackworms. He attributes a lot of his success to them. While they are not a saltwater natural food, that's kinda not important. It breaks down to nutritional value, and what the fish needs. Fat, proteins, ect. It's like feeding your CBB clam. It would never eat that it the wild, but we use clam as a big part of marine fish diets.. The worms actually don't foul out. They stay alive in the saltwater for a very long period of time. Trust me, before they ever get to die, they will be gone...lol...I have yet to ever see one hit the sand bed. Btw maybe you are unaware that 50% of what we feed our marine fish doesn't come from saltwater. Mysis, Cyclopeeze, ect. All freshwater May need to add this to my feeding regimen, especially since I will be adding more fish to the new tank. As with anything you feed, I'm sure it is done sparingly. I never knew that about mysis, cyclopeeze, etc. Link to comment

Alex B
Question for the wrasse guys. I was going to pick up a leopard wrasse over the weekend. I ended up passing on it. I think I rather have some color in the tank. What are some of the rarer reef safe wrasses? Something that could be the highlight of the tank! I'm also looking for something that will school, or atleast for the most part stay together. I know chromis don't last long, and they fight a lot with each other, but I always enjoyed them in my other tank. I'm not a fan of cardinals. Lastly I would like a tang for grazing, ect. I'm just paranoid. I always seem to have something come in with tangs. No matter if I qt or not. All my fish are healthy and I would hate to introduce something at this point. What tang do you guys think would set off the tank? Whatever I buy will be tiny. By the time it starts getting some size, moving time and upgrade will be around the corner. I also have a nice size torch at my buddies. I think it will be nice to add a little movement to the tank. When I get the torch in, maybe I will think about some designer clown to host it. That's one of the possibilities on my list. Also high on my list is a pair of flame wrasses. I think they are awesome. I think I'm going to give the chromis a go in this tank. I had 3 in my other tank. I would love something taking up open space, schooling together. Gem tang Lol...I wouldn't put a gem tang in a 36 inch footprint. That's just cruel. Its a lovely fish, but if I was going to spend 3000.00 on something, it wouldn't be a fish. Link to comment
AJ_Tsin
If I was going to spend 3000.00 on something, it wouldn't be a fish. It would be coral? I always liked Tomini Tangs. When you figure out a sweet idea for schooling fish let me know. I want em too. If only chromis weren't such jerks, they would be awesome. Link to comment

If I can get 3 chromis to behave I would be happy. They a pretty fish, school, eat well...only downside is the aggression. Some people get lucky and they keep em for years. I think I'm going to just give it a shot. I think the other fish can defend themselves. Link to comment

I'd say go for the leopard. They may not be super colorful, but the pattern is hard to beat. Leave the color for the other fish you put in the tank. I feel yeah on the schooling fish. You have to get something, it is a must for any reef tank over 50 gallons imo. I agree too on the chromis and I am not much a fan of cardinals either. How about a small school of chalk bass? Or Anthias? You don't want to try another bristletooth tang? They are such cool fish and would be fine whether you upgrade or not. Edit: I meant that last statement as a question. Link to comment

Unfortunately I don't think I could sustain 3 or even a pair. If I found one that was already a male, I would jump on it. If im not mistaken, once a wrasse switches over to male it stays that way. I was thinking about more anthias, I just don't want aggression to become a problem. My fathead is awesome, and I would hate for him to get bullied. Bartletts are mean suckers, maybe some dispars would work. I do like the blue/green chromis though. They are a classic fish, it's just hit or miss with them. I don't think I want another bristletooth. If I get a tang it's to help with grazing and algae. They don't do much for that. Mine didn't even touch nori. AJ_Tsin
Do you have D-Day in there? Can you take a closeup? I was telling Jay at RR Canada how sweet RR USA's D-Day is and he cut me a free frag of something that isn't named or anything but is same species and is kindof purple with yellow higlights to see if I could color it up. Said it could be same thing but doesn't know. Interested to see what the non photoshopped to radioactivity by RR USA photos look like in your tank. Link to comment
Alex B
My dday was a goner when it arrived. I'm waiting for more frags to be available. To be honest, I don't see me doing much business with reefraft USA. Let's just say, consider yourself blessed to have the connection you have. As pretty as some of these peices are, I've decided I won't let it get the best of me. As a collector, I am more then willing to spend some good dough on coral. What i won't do is support businesses with a certain "approach" to our hobby. Link to comment

Alex B
So I have slowly weeded off zeovit for the last couple weeks. It pains me to say it, but things have never been better! I would love some opinions on what's going on. Ive spoken to some other zeovit masters, and here's where I'm at. My tank was started with dryrock, and has been nutrient low from the get. I made sure to soak my dryrock for a week and test for phosphates which were zero. I was without fish for about 6 weeks and have never had more then 3 small fish. At the end of the day, the tank is young and has never had a huge bioload of nutrient import. Basically the tank is just too clean, and corals were starving. That would obviously explain a lot of the problems I've been having. STN being the big one. Corals would be fine a few weeks, and then slowly start to go downhill, loose color, and some even Stn. I've tried lowering my start3 dosage, reducing flow in reactor, adding more food and aminos. Nothing seemed to do much though. I could go weeks without cleaning my glass. My rocks still look like new dryrock, which is pretty crazy! I think zeovit is awesome at lowering nutrients, in my case too good...lol...the plan now is to let the tank mature a bit. Maybe in a couple months I will see nutrients creep up a bit and I will start it up again. I'm under the impression, that if I would have started this tank with quality liverock, i wouldn't be having this problem. I'm willing to let the tank and rock mature though, so no big deal. Pics tom as I'm finally happy with some of the colors. If any other Zeoheads care to chime in, please do. Link to comment
Alex B
New fishie...haven't seen one in a while, so I couldn't resist. He's already eating frozen. He went straight into the tank and started hitting the pods. Also demolished blackworms and mysis. Arkayology
I had the same experience with zeovit. In the end, I was better off with not using it. The tank improved dramatically after I took it offline. It lowered the nutrients too much and gave me a weird algae on the sand. Link to comment
Alex B
Awesome! He's the only fish in the tank now?? No he's not. There is a sunburst anthias, yellow coris wrasse, royal gramma, the tamarin wrasse, and a tomini tang in qt. I had the same experience with zeovit. In the end, I was better off with not using it. The tank improved dramatically after I took it offline. It lowered the nutrients too much and gave me a weird algae on the sand. Got ya. I didn't have any weird stuff on my sand, or rocks, but the tank is way low in nutrients. I mean the tank is 5 months old, and the rocks still look like new dry rock. That's not normal. I'm not even growing coralline. For now I plan to let the tank mature. All my param are where I want them. Today was the first time I actually had some phosphate...lol...how many reefers get happy about that. Tested at .03 on a Hannah ulr checker. Link to comment
