Welcome to my new tank soon to be filled with the contents of my other two tanks smile.gif
Most people upgrade to bigger but im having to upgrade smaller smile.gif Basically I have 2 marine tanks, one large turtle tank and a leopard gecko and i have just purchased my first flat that i will be moving into in the next few months. So i decided to cut down, and the choice was giving up marines or the turtle, in the end I couldn't choose so i'm moving the turtle into 117l tank and downsizing my reef into this new setup which I have planned and gone all out on to make it really nice and something very easy to run and maintain. The rest of the stock etc will be sold off to fund some furniture in the new flat smile.gif Anyways boring stuff over Here are the Specs and some pics.

Some frags i have made up to sell soon, There is enough space under the rack to add some live rock pieces to assist in filtration and for the crabs and shrimp etc to hide.

Pipework finished for return and algae scrubber, fully adjustable with two inline taps. Ideal for cleaning as each one can be shut off etc while the other continues. Algae Scrubber is all running now so hopefully will work. Just waiting on the red led to light it properly.

I have one of these little beauties waiting for me.The private seller is holding it for me and also won't let them go until they are eating at least frozen which is a really good thing as they are picky eaters but fingers crossed it will all go well. I have wanted a scooter for ages as think they are really cute and fun to watch and as i am going for very peaceful fish this seemed like the right choice to add as a final fish to the goby and blenny. Can't wait. :)

New 10w blue/red led arrived for the algae scrubber. apparently this light does really well on these so will see how it does.
IMG_1179_zpsfa7ade0a.jpg
The distance was spot on from the cabinet to the scrubber so was really easy to put in place with one screw.

I'll take some pics in a week or so of the scrubber screen and see what the growth is like. i had diatom outbreak from the move so waiting for that to clear and then hopefully the algae will do its thing.

So was a little busy yesterday. Had a few people come pick up some corals that i have left over and am selling off. However someone came for the pistol shrimp eeergh what a mission that was. Well while i had the old tank in turmoil i managed to catch my blenny, cave goby and the urchin. Havent seen them since moving them over so fingers crossed. My urchin decided that while being acclimatized it was a good time to catch up on sleep so he spent the rest of the day like this in the new tank as i wasnt waiting any longer lol.

I also picked up a small nassa snail that has buried himself straight away and didnt get a pic. I'm hoping that between the nassa and the numerous dove snails they will move the sand around enough to keep it clean.

My new Auto top off came in the post yesterday so i will hopefully fit that in a min.
IMG_1237_zps17f24afb.jpg
And my trachy begging for food lol.

Porcelain crab seems pretty happy in the tank.

Still have to catch the fire shrimp as i was unsuccessful yesterday lol but that is the last one to go in until i fetch the fire blenny. smile.gif

Interesting system.

Love the ATS, and frag tank in sump.

Updates on the Hydor ato when available.

Thanks :)

Just finished adding my reactor/ single doser/ and auto top up. All working well etc. Feel a lot more confident about the new auto top off.

From what I've seen so far i think its going to be a nice piece of equipment.

My crabs favourite spot in the new tank even though there is his anemone nearby:
Going to have to name him cliff or sylvestor lol.
IMG_1246_zps5502c6fe.jpg

Really bad picture as its a dark corner but wanted to show how big the anemones on the pom pom crab are getting.
IMG_1244_zps24c1e52e.jpg

And finally, the algae scrubber after a couple weeks is doing really well and better than i expected. Again really bad pic but you can make out a lot of the algae. Going to do some tests this afternoon or tomorrow and see where everything is at as the tank hasnt had a waterchange in over a week so will be doing that tomo as well:

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a clean of the algae scrubber a few days ago and this is what it looked like. Think it must be working.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the scrubber but i find that with my old tank i was cleaning the glass every couple days whereas with this system probs every 4-5days and even then its not even that bad.

Wow such a great setup! I really like the well thought out sump!

edit: what are those fittings/hose/valves you are using on the return and reactor called?

Thanks :) the taps are actually garden hose taps. they work really well as they are very smooth and easy to adjust. They were loads cheaper than normal marine tap fittings.

is your scrubber fed by the return pump or the overflow? do you find it better than growing chaeto? and last question, what vendor on ebay did you get the red led from?

Hi the scrubber is fed from a tee off of the return pump. I thought of using the overflow but im not using any floss and it would block up the scrubber and cause problems etc. I found with chaeto that it tends to let little pieces float everywhere etc and yes i think my results are better with the scrubber etc.

I think i bought from this one but they are all the same lights etc. i have the 10watts version. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10W-20W-30W-50W-Blue-554nm-Red-660nm-Hydroponic-Plant-Flood-LED-Grow-Lights-/251263083641?pt=UK_Baby_Baby_Feeding_Bottle_Warmers_Coolers_LE&var=550231709424&hash=item3a80726479
