I already started following you! Getting ideas from everyone's spec v.

3/5/2014 Update:

Added some filter floss, 5 lbs of live sand, 3 lbs of live rocks, and cleaned up my wiring a little. It's starting to look good already, water completely cleared in a couple of hours which surprised me. Will be adding a mini-jet 404 that I got from a local reefer.

Now it's time to wait and check my parameters and see if it's safe to add a CUC and a frag to test out if the budget lighting is gonna be able to handle some zoas, frogspawns, and torches because thats what I'm gonna have only in this tank. Hopefully a colorful garden with a goby.

Now onto the pictures! Also included my freshwater planted pico that is also in my room on a book shelf. Will be adding a co2 supplement to it soon so the plant growth will be amazing. It already needs some pruning.

Might be ordering this light for my spec v. Anyone has any experience with these? Looks pretty good, and its dimmable. Perfect for what I need, wish it was a bit longer but 12" seems okay. 14k spectrum sounds nice also, love that coloring.

nice rockscape. can't wait to see what you stock this with. mine is already filling up faster than I expected...

Thanks, your tank is what I want to end up with. It looks so great! But this one will be a frogspawn/hammer, zoas, and ric garden. I just got some new things for it today and will update it here in a sec.

Got to get my main piece frogspawn from a local reefer, has 5 heads with 2 more baby ones! Also went to the LFS and bought a CUC. And then there he was a Stubby Ocellaris Stubby False Percula Clownfish! I had to get him, he was awesome. About the length of a nickel, and real fat and healthy. Also got some green zoas there. Unknown name hoping one of y'all could tell me what it is. Did my first water change today and everything is clear like crystal.

Will be ordering my media basket soon, and fugue light to grow chaeto in the back. Will be running chaeto, filter floss, and purigen. Hoping to find a Reefkeeper also soon so I don't have to worry about the temperature so much. And I've been dosing super buffer-dkh every 3 days in small amounts.

Here's some pictures, corals hasn't open yet since the light just came on but you get the idea, I'll post a better pic of the zoas later if anyone can identify it. Enjoy the update!

Yes it's a fine frogspawn. Here's a better picture of the frogspawn when it opened a bit better. And a picture of the zoas. Looks like radioactive dragons, but not sure exactly.

Buddy just told me he's gonna get fragging me a bunch of stuff from his tank, so expect more corals coming soon! Hoping to find a nice cleaner shrimp for the tank also. Might add a nice goby too if I could fine one.

Did you add a CUC, corals, and fish in a matter of days? I'm confused on the timeline haha. I only ask because it's been a week since I put water, rock, and sand in my Spec V and my Nitrates are at least 10ppm with no traces or Ammonia or Nitrate. I think I'm cycled, but it seems impossible... I was expecting things to take much longer, and I'm just trying to get opinions on whether or not I'm good to go, from one Spec V owner to another!

Yes I used the water and live rock from another tank, used brand new live rock so I would think it would be fine.

But this tank will be going down soon, restarting my RSM 130D and will be transferring everything over stay tuned!

What did you end up doing with your lighting?

I ended up ordering a new set up so my old lighting is just sitting in a box. MicMol Mini coming soon! I'll take an updated picture soon.

Nothing changed much, since I've been focusing on getting my RSM 130D up and running. I just took out the clown, added a coral banded shrimp and a porcelain crab. And my girlfriend wanted a small lawnmower blenny which never comes out until a blue moon appears. I fragged my frogspawn for the first time and got a mini frag and a 3 head frag that went into the RSM. Everything's been growing pretty well, haven't been caught up with the upkeep but that'll change now. Still need to get more corals.

I added a Koralia 240 and it seems a bit too much flow, had to place my frogspawn on the opposite side. My new light (MicMol Mini Color) should be coming soon by next week. Still need to find extra funds to get the intank media basket and I'll be done with this little spec V. On to the pictures!

Looks great so far, Im digging the bi-color frogspawn you have ;)

It's my favorite coral so far. I fragged it out to put some in my RSM. Hopefully I find myself some torches and hammers to add to the nano, hopefully find some show pieces for my RSM too. Such an expensive hobby!

Added my new MicMol Aqua Mini Color to the tank, I love the way it looks, color is awesome, but I do have a complaint. I'll write a review about it in the equipment forum here in a bit.

Other than that, I completely changed out my nano into a frag tank grow out. I moved my banded shrimp to the downstairs RSM, and left the crab and lawnmower blenny. Might just get a baby clown so I have something to look at. The sand bed is now filled with zoa frags, and other things. I will update pictures later when I get some free time. Lots of new corals!

Tank is changing a lot, took out a bunch of live rock, left two in there. Only have a couple of frogspawn frags, a torch, and some kryponite candy canes left. Added some more CUC. But mainly added two baby clowns. They are about 1/2" big so they are TINY! I'll get pictures of the FTS soon.

BUT in better news, I got bored and started to do a little LED set up for the tank. Might get rid of my micmol mini aqua color, it's awesome with the programming but it's just a bit overkill for what I'm doing with this little tank. Now I'll go with (10) 1 watt LED stars in different colors to see what I could come up with. I ordered about 100 royal blues and cool whites off ebay so I can play with colors. I'll be tearing apart my old beam works fixture also and modding that too. Here's some pictures of the fixture I thought up of, uses the stock Fluval mount too. Not too sure if I want to spray it black or leave the cool texture I made on it.

Great tank so far! I was tempted to use the Hawaiian black sand but I'm happy with the choice I made also. I can't wait to see the baby clowns...
