I got some macro last week and some of it is starting to turn white. (Red titan andcauperla prolifica) I'm new to macro, what's going on?

If it is just the tips of the prolifica, this is normal. The titan shouldn't do this though.

Whenever I buy macro, it seems to get some die off after shipping and then comes back. I've always wondered if being in a dark box for a few days and then back under light could cause shock like with corals? or perhaps just stress from shipping.

Also +1 Hypostatic, I think the red titan was to the far right of your light. Maybe try it directly under to see if it recovers?

Should I snip off the white bits?

I don't (I'm lazy). If your nutrients are really low, the the dying part might help feed the macro.

What kind of light do you have?

Well its doing it in my mantis and seahorse tanks. Seahorse has t5 which i know needs the bulbs replaced. The mantis has leds. Both lights have grown coral.

Macro likes high nutrient systems. For many reef keepers, macro gets starved because the systems are maintained to clean. If a fast growing macro is put into a nutrient low tank with intense lights, it would be prone to going asexual. With messy eaters like ponies, fast growing macro would be a perfect combination. A fast growing feather Caulerpa would provide a vibrant emerald green to contrast with a rich dark red of Gracilaria Hayi. Hayi has a flattened broad leaf which makes a concentric circle that forms a compact bush. Not much eats it as it is slightly calcified and somewhat rigid. Hayi and the green macro that you mentioned would do well under 6500K lighting. Deep water red macros like dragons breath and red grapes are collected in 40'-120' deep in the nutrient rich Gulf Of Mexico. At 60' deepth the remaining spectrum is blue and purple. If your Red Titan came from Reef Cleaners, those guys are on the Atlantic side of Florida. The water there would be very low in nutrients. I saw some Red Grapes in one of the pictures in your Sea Horse tank. Red Grapes can grow to 18"-24" tall and 12"-18" wide. It was a central display in a 55G tank that was illuminated by four 40W normal florescent two at 6500 kelvin and two actinic.

Good fortune with the Red Grapes. They may turn out to be a string of pearls.

I tested the nitrates today and it came up as 0 so the plants must be taking in everything. I'm thinking about getting a fish to put in here and add a little more bioload for the algae.

what i do for my star grass is i just stuff some pellets in the sand under the roots

Star Grass is not a macro algae. It is a true marine plant with roots that uptake nutrients.
