Vertex Stands

Aluminum? :( that's a pretty bad idea. One thing that twenty years in the Navy taught me that aluminum does NOT hold up to salt water well, and corrodes as a soluble white powdery material. I would like to know that it isn't harmful to the tank occupants before even considering it.

The stand has no contact with tank occupants. The t-slot is used as a frame for the stand, and then it is skinned with removable panels. The stand was showcased at MACNA and there is a video of one being assemble on a very popular vendor's website.(No link because I don't know whether we are allowed to link to vendors here.) Anyway, I contacted that vendor and they don't have any idea when they will be offering the stands. PM me if you want a link to the video. It is a REALLY slick stand.

I think it only comes with the purchase of a tank, I have tried looking for one too but it does not seem like they sell the stand alone. I would buy one, they are great light easily assembled stands

Older destroyers used aluminum for their hulls so marine grade t6032 aluminum should work...seethis store which used bosch stuff http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=97843

Um what? I did 20 in the Navy... Never heard of an aluminum hulled destroyer, and some quick google-fu doesn't find me any examples. LCACs use it expansively, and there are some classes of ship that have experimented with aluminum superstructures, but broadly speaking, it typically hasn't gone well using large amounts of aluminum on warships.

The Independence-class LCS is using aluminum for the hull, but they've had a lot of corrosion problems directly related to that.

So, it can be done, but the lifespan of the ships in question tends to be drastically reduced.

I have ordered 80/20 t-slot materials to build a mounting solution for my Radion. With the connectors and accessories that are available, it looks like you could build just about anything with that stuff! If my project works out, I might attempt building my own stand frame out of raw materials.

I'll bet these are pretty pricey. I just priced out the raw materials for a DIY project and they come to about $575.00

This style has been used in Europe for years now. This stand looks to be made from 80/20 rails.

That's what I used to price out a DIY. Do you have a link to any stands that they sell in Europe?

I do industrial Maintenance and was looking at our 80/20 parts that we have left after jobs. An the 80/20 quick frame is the same thing as the Porsa framing. In fact I have enough tubing left over to make a stand for my 25 gallon Mr. Aqua

Here is a link to the 80/20 quick frame tubing.

Built a hanging solution for my Radion using t-slot yesterday and it turned out to be awesome.Been trying to get pics, but nothing decent. This stuff is the bee's knees.

That last link is for quick frame and I am pretty sure that is is NOT sturdy enough for a stand. Go to eBay and search for 80/20 t-slot . That's the stuff to use. There are links there for the proper connectors, too. As of now, I don't think Vertex stands are available in the US.

Hello thread resurrection!

Anyone heard anything on the Vertex Stands?

I'm getting the itch to upgrade, and really like these ones, and the corresponding covers they showed at Macna 2013 (Sheesh going on two years, come on Vertex!)

Contact BRS. They seem to get all the Vertex stuff including getting stuff custom made for them.

Good plan. I just emailed them. I'll post the response here.

Yeah have you seen their new Vertex toy recently? They got a dual display tank made that shares water column as they are testing the Kessil purple and magenta horticulture specific LEDs as a fuge specific lights. Think they want to start carrying them as fuge specific lights as they are quite cheaper than their aquarium stuff. I have an H150 magenta which I got for super cheap waiting to go on my new big cad tank.

I did one of these last year for a client and the cost is very high with 80/20. Most wouldn't want to spend that on a stand.

For those that don't mind spending the money I can make them custom.

80/20 doesn't offer a snap in for the panels like in the video but i have my version that I machine in house.

For those that wish to DIY with 80/20 you could probably use velcro to do the same thing. Check out the garage sale for 80/20 on ebay also for good deals.

I am currently working with a company outside the US to offer aluminum framed stands for the upcoming PicO series.

I'll give BRS one thing and that is their customer service is pretty rad. I received a reply:

Hey Jordon,

Great question, as many of us here are anxiously awaiting the stands and tanks for our own personal use. We unfortunately are in the same position and are not aware of any of the Stands/Tanks coming to the US market. From the small info we have received and our tanks the units are still in Metric which may be a delay. We have not received any indication of the tanks being mass produced in the near future. I am very sorry about that and really wish we had the opportunity to sell the products. Feel free to give us a call if you have any further questions! I hope you have a great rest of the day!

I feel that this is simply vapourware... :(

The cost can't be that much higher than what some of the LFS in my area [at least] want for their stands from the cabinet makers. I got quoted $1k for an 18"x18"x32" basic stand. One door, nothing fancy. Laminate.

I think one of them I did was around $600 and the other was $900 and change. 24 x 24 x 36 and I think the other was 48 x 12 x 36.

I was working on these like over 2 years ago and then I saw the Vertex one and figured they beat me to market and would offer them at a lower cost. but yeah it seems like they may not do them after all. Who knows!

I guess Vertex doesn't think there is enough market demand in the US to sell these.

8020 is not the only competition in t-slot extrusions, and quite often are the most expensive. Bosch and Misumi are also big players in the t-slot market. Misumi sells direct to the public, and quite often has good prices for parts.
