Help with Tile star

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Tile starfish on Thursday and noticed today some damage to 2 of the legs. I have a couple snails an emerald crab and a blue leg hermit. Could it be the hermit crab picking peaces off.

Do I leave the starfish alone or treat the damaged legs some how

Water perimeters are

nitrate 0ppm

Nitrite 0ppm

Alkalinity 250ppm

Ph 7.8

Thanks in advance for the help

Good luck. Starfish often starve to death in all but the biggest tanks. Inverts may pick at a star, you'll have to watch carefully and see if that's what's going on. I had a 1.5" pistol shrimp absolutely tear up a 10" brittle star and harlequins don't eat anything but starfish.

If the legs are already showing signs of damage there is a good chance your star is wasting away already. I don't think there is much you can do at this point other than keep watching it and pull it out once it really starts to waste.
